Natalia's POV
He was gone when I woke up and that was when I realised that he had regretted it. I had been smiling in my sleep – having been able to make it through the night without finding myself trapped in a nightmare – but that smile had quickly faded when I turned over to find the bed empty beside me, the pillow cold and his clothes gone.
"Shit," I cursed, lying on my back and looking to the ceiling. He hadn't been drinking but there was no way that Theseus Scamander was in the right state of mind. He wouldn't have slept with me if he was.
Pulling back the covers, I put what little clothes I could find back on, feeling nervous about my skin. I wanted to curl into a ball and never retract, never look at him again, because now I never could. Could I?
I made my way to the kitchen, thinking of his lips as I boiled the kettle, remembering his hands on my skin as I pulled the milk from the fridge.
"Oh for Merlin's sake," I cursed myself, wrapping my fingers around the warm mug of freshly-brewed tea. "He's just a man."
Except he wasn't just a man He was Theseus Scamander. The Head Auror of the Ministry for Magic, the brother to one of my greatest friends, fiancé to the Leta Lestrange. And I had slept with him. I had completely ruined any shred of control that I might have had left, any dignity that remained. What would my sister say if she saw me now?
Dropping down onto the small seat by the window of my apartment, I sighed heavily. Placing my mug down, I noticed the small piece of paper that had been left as a note.
Nat, it read. Pop by my office for me to sign your travel papers.
That was it. That was all it said despite being signed with his name. "What?" I asked myself, tossing the paper down. Was that all he had to say? After what had happened last night, I thought it bad that he didn't have the decency to wake me up before he left, but now he left a note with no mention of anything. Was I the one overreacting?
With a heavy sigh, I picked back up my cup of tea and relaxed back in the chair. Closing my eyes for a moment, I tried to put all thoughts of that stupid man out of my head. I didn't have time to think, not when I needed to get to Paris. My love life could wait.

I hurried through the halls of the Ministry towards Theseus' office, mentally preparing myself to get in and get out as quickly as I possibly could. I was so certain of my plan. Hand him the travel papers I had already typed up for him, get him to sign and get out, and apparate to Paris. That plan went out the window when I stepped inside without knocking and found him sat at his desk, Leta at his side.
"Oh," I breathed. "Sorry, I didn't... mean to interrupt."
It hurt. I had to admit that it hurt. She had a hand on his arm and she was clearly smiling about something. Theseus on the other hand was frowning and I could see how his arm inched away and he stood.
"Leta was just leaving," he explained, clearing his throat.
"No I wasn't," Leta replied, smile dropping as she looked at him.
"Were you in the middle of an argument?" I posed, holding the papers to my chest and smiling sweetly. I wasn't sure why I was happy with what Theseus had said, that he had told her to leave. Maybe it was jealousy, I didn't know.
