He was alive, and that was perhaps all that I could think about as I tended to the wounds the youngest Scamander brother had earned. He had burns on his arms, gashes on his forehead and his clothes had been soaked through when we arrived. Newt Scamander certainly wasn't swimming.

Finished, I brushed a thumb across the hairs on his forehead before leaving a kiss against his skin. I found Theseus Scamander with a mysterious magical creature in the living room.

"What is it?" I asked.

Cradling it like it was a baby, I couldn't help the smile that overtook my lips. Theseus as a father... it wasn't a thought I had had before.

"A Qilin, I think," Theseus responded as I sat beside him.

Running a gentle hand over its furred head, I laughed as it nuzzled closely. "It's cute."

Theseus watched me out of the corner of his eye. "It's really rare, like once in a blue moon rare. Part dragon, part horse, I think. History books say that they were used to choose the next Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards."

"How did it do that?"

"The Qilin has the ability to find the purest heart in a crowd of hundreds or thousands even. It can also see certain futures."

I smiled at him. "How do you know all this?"

Theseus hesitated. "Newt used to ramble about his learnings all the time. Its not my fault I remember a few of the details."

Hand on the side of his face, I rubbed my thumb across his cheek. "And here I thought you and your brother had nothing in common."

"We don't."

"You are exceptionally good listeners."

The Qilin stirred in his arms and Theseus began to hum a lullaby I had never heard before. He rocked it to sleep.

"Where's the lullaby from?" I asked.

"My mum. Always told myself that if I ever had kids, I'd rock them to sleep with the song she used."

His eyes still on the magical creature, Theseus wasn't able to note the gaze I had pinned him with. "You would be an amazing father."

He looked up then. "Really?"

"Outstanding."

"Well..." he paused, taking a deep breath and leaning against my shoulder. "...if I'm going to be a father, you'll be the one the let me know."

Stifling a laugh, I dropped my head to rest it in the crook of his neck, petting the Qilin. "Us as parents? What horror." My tone jested.

"Is that something you want?" Theseus posed, his voice shaking slightly. I knew that being a father was a long-time dream of his.

I looked into his eyes, if only for him to know that I was entirely genuine. "I never wanted kids, not in Hogwarts, not after Hogwarts, but now? After everything that happened with Credence and with what hasn't happened yet... I can't imagine not having a family of my own, a kid to boss around."

"You boss everyone around," Theseus cast, but his tone was lighter.

"If I am going to have children," I expressed, wrapping my hands around his arm, "it will be with you."

He smiled and I smiled in return. "I think that can be arranged." There was a small silence, in which I received a rather open-ended kiss, before Theseus spoke again. "How's Newt?"
