Charley looked at the new person displayed in the main hall.

The room was full of chatter, unlike the weeks prior, everyone was more at ease with the entire situation. At ease, but not okay with it.
His eyes scrolled through the crowd, finding some people laughing. Charley would have smiled at it, before he found they were laughing at the dead kid.

Charley looked down at his shoes. He'd just have to hang out here for a few more seconds. Anthony would find him here soon.

"Hey, Charles!" Anthony said cheerfully. He ignored the body up the stage and turned right around again. Charley clutched the book he had brought with him and followed Anthony out of the main hall. They walked passed the trophy case, both chatting lightly as they looked away from the body in there.

They reached the class they had next and sat down next to each other. The girl Charley sat with in the past now sat alone. She always looked sad now, but nobody wanted to start caring. People seemed to die left and right, and getting attached was... sad.

At least Charley had Anthony.
Anthony smiled as he told Charley some rumours.

The girl froze up when a name was mentioned.

"Who's Dian?" Charley asked, looking at the girl's reaction again.

She clutched the pen in her hand, staring down at her notebook. Before her notebooks were filled with doodles, marked just right. Now, her notebooks were bland. It was sad.

Anthony had referred to the body up the stage and again Charley glanced at the girl.
Now Anthony glanced as well, but he shrugged.

After class, the girl was one of the first to leave. Charley didn't know wether he wanted to follow her, to see wether she was okay. She would probably die soon anyway if she kept slacking off like that.

Charley looked back af Anthony. He had one friend already, which was risky enough.

Though, Anthony, gave him a look.
He smiled, "Go after her, I know you want to."

Charley sighed ar him, but smiled back. "Thanks." He said without thinking about it and hurried after the girl.

She walked quick, the library not being far off. As she disappeared in its doors, Charley followed without thinking twice.

"Hey," Charley said. The girl glanced back, a dark look in her eyes.

"What do you want?" She asked, her tone matching her look.

Charley shrugged casually before he looked around. "Just checking in, to see whether you're okay."

The girl shrugged and turned to one of the book cases. "I'm fine."

"You don't look fine," Charley decided to press. He walked up to her and looked at the types of books she was reading. She had gone from murder mystery and the paranormal to simply murder.
As Charley grabbed one of the books he pulled his conclusions. "You're sad, you and Dian had been friends, hadn't you?"

The girl rolled her eyes, "So what?"

Charley looked away.
"So... I'm sorry." Charley looked at her with a nervous smile, "And sorry for me and my friend speaking off them so bluntly in front of you."

"Hm," The girl just said. She chose a book and moved on to a new bookcase. "It wasn't all that blunt, I suppose."

Charley walked with her, but suddenly a book caught his eyes. It wasn't because of its vibrant red cover, but because it was simply... "A secret handle!" The words left his mouth a bit too quickly.

"What?" The girl looked over.

"I forgot your name," Charley said quickly, deciding to go with it, "But look at this book."

The girl mumbled her name. Valley.
"It's just a book...." She trailed off as she noticed the lack of dust on it.
"A secret handle."

Charley reached out to pull it, but Valley quickly grabbed his hand.
"You don't know what it will do!"

"It can't be that bad," Charley said before he returned to reality and understood what Valley meant. "Right, it might kill me."

"Yes," Valley said sharply, "Idiot, and what's your name again?"

Charley gave her a smile. "I'm Charley."

She nodded and looked back at the handle.
"What do you suppose it does?" Curiosity fell over her face within a second.

"I dunno," Charley admitted, "Maybe... it opens a door?"

Valley nodded, "That would be classic."

Charley looked around and started walked around the bookcase, "Maybe if we open the bookcase or something we can see the mechanics?"

"That's smart," Valley thought, "But..."

"But?"

"It's a waste of time," Valley shrugged, "Aren't you going for the win?"

Charley smiled, "Who isn't?"
As Valley gave him a small smile, Charley realised. "Oh."

Valley had given up on winning already. Maybe losing Dian had hit her that hard.

"Well," Charley looked at the bookcase, "I'm curious, and I've got some time to spare, so why not?"

Valley looked at him sternly, but when Charley only gave her a confident smile, Valley gave in.
Together they found some stuff to break the wood, and they went to break apart the bookcase. It was rather curious how it was build, so both of them were confident they should find something in there.

"Whoa!" Valley let out excitedly when they had opened the bookcase, "It's an entire system!"

Charley crouched down and looked through the hole they had created. Wheels and small metal parts stood ready to do something.
"Yeah... what does it do though?"

"Obviously," Valley got up and looked at the ground. Charley was about to ask if she was okay, but Valley started walking, following the tiles as if there was a pattern. Charley looked down at the tiles. They all looked the same.

As he stayed staring he suddenly found the details on a few off them off. As though the ground had been broken open?

"Over here," Valley said from behind a few bookcases. Charley hurried over to find her standing in front of a stone wall.

She was searching through her book bag, looking for a knife.

Charley sat down on a desk. Maybe if this was an actual school, he'd have sat here to study, right between the books.

"Got it," Valley said before she started counting the stones.

"What are you doing?" Charley asked curiously.

"Testing a theory," Valley said. She found a stone on the wall and carved it out. "The tiles are different, a few of them, because the floor must have been broken open to hide some mechanical shit, meaning..."
The cement fell out of the stone and Valley smiled before gesturing for Charley to come have a look.

Charley looked through the stones, finding a room.

"So it was a secret room!" Charley grinned.

Valley picked up her bag and they walked back to the handle.
"Should we test it?" Valley asked and Charley nodded.

Together they pulled the book off the shelve, hearing a low ticking sound in return. They looked around cautiously before from behind the shelves, a crackling sound made its way through the library.

Charley grinned at Valley.
"We're geniuses."

Valley frowned, "Well, I don't suppose you have done much—"

As Charley walked over to the door they just opened, he smiled at Valley. "I predicted it would be a door. Come on! Let's check it out!"

And they did.
