A cold hand lay in another's.

Valley woke up in a hospital bed. It had been a week since the attack, a week since she had gotten stabbed almost fatally. Warm bandages circled her stomach. The drawing feeling of painkillers made her wondered if she really felt the hand.

When she glanced over, she figured it an illusion.
She smiled at Toby.
He smiled back.

The warm sunlight trickled into the room, and only when Toby put a finger to his mouth and got up, Valley considered the possibility of this being real.
She wondered about her mother outside, and the danger she'd be in.

Toby put his lips on Valley's forehead before he turned around and found the window.
The window closed, leaving the room empty.

A nurse came in, shaking Valley from her thoughts. She looked away from the window, rubbing a hand over her forehead. That had seemed very... very real...

The end

A/n:

...
Writing this was a hassle.
I'm tired of life, but at least I've written yet another fanfic.
I'm kinda proud of the friendship I've written about, and I hope to see you around.

(Editing waffle is better now— writing this helped but whoa that author note is depressing what— anyway, I'm kinda glad I finished it till the end. Thanks for sticking around!)

Have a great day/night,

—Waffle
