It was already two in the afternoon when I entered my office, my lunch had finished a few minutes ago and I would finish making some reports for the company, we would end the day with a profit meeting, which would make me get home a little later.

I remembered to call my wife, I didn't want to keep her waiting since I had agreed to have dinner together.

I went through my bag looking for my cell phone, when I found it I dialed Lisa's number, it rang a few times before she answered.

- Hey love. — She spoke breathlessly on the other end of the line.

— Hi, were you running? — I leaned back in the chair facing the wall in front of me.

— I was, I was a little anxious this afternoon. — I grimaced when I heard that, it wasn't a good sign. — Hey, it's okay, don't worry.

Lisa noticed my long silence and I sighed into the phone.

— I called to say that I'm having a meeting, I'll arrive a little later.

— Meeting about what? — I heard the sound of the door closing, she was probably still in the hallway of our building.

— About the company's profits. — I heard knocking on the door. — Baby, there's someone knocking on the door, we'll talk later, okay?

— Ok. — After hanging up the phone I walked to the door and then opened it.

— Good afternoon Manoban. — Suzy said, entering my room. — I bring great news. — She said smiling.

Suzy was none other than the company's CEO's wife, you know that person you have to swallow at work to avoid any kind of professional problem? So, Suzy was that person, but unfortunately she really liked to make things difficult For me, something I had never understood.

- Hey good afternoon. — I didn't sit down, I crossed my arms in front of her who was also standing in front of me.

— I'm warning everyone, the meeting has been postponed until tomorrow.

- Oh yes. — I said in surprise, it was the first time this had happened, even stranger was the fact that she thought it was great news that such an important meeting was being postponed.

— Some unforeseen events occurred. — She said after noticing my expression.

— Alright then, what's the time tomorrow?

— I still need to confirm, but as soon as I know I'll let you know. — Suzy walked to the door while she spoke, then left my room.

Well, at least I'd get to have dinner with Lisa. The day went on without any unexpected events and I left the company at 8 pm as usual, I walked to the parking lot looking for my car and unlocked the alarm when I found it, I left my things on the driver's seat and as I drove to the exit I was surprised No one had left yet, at that time the parking lot was supposed to be empty on the west side.

I left my curiosity aside and drove through the streets of Los Angeles, it was hot even though there was no sun in the sky, I unbuttoned my dress shirt, it was starting to suffocate me a little.

I couldn't wait to get there and take a shower, I was nervous to find out why Lisa had decided to run, she only did that when her thoughts tormented her, and that wasn't a good sign.

Lisa and I met very young and had a turbulent 4-year relationship, Lisa had an extremely difficult life from childhood to adulthood, she lived with her alcoholic father and her mother had killed herself when she was 10 years old, I lost my I can count how many times she arrived at my house all hurt, her father beat her and it made my heart hurt, but at the time I couldn't do much about it, he was her father.
