It had been a year; a year since Vicky and Luke broke off any contact. Believe me but she used to love him, used to hold him every night, kiss him every morning. But when he joined Kronos, everything changed. He changed.
And it feels like Thèrèse abandoning her all over again to join WCKD. Why would everyone she loved abandoned her?
Kronos' army had attacked Camp Half-Blood, and in the chaos of the fight she had gotten injured, leaning against a wall as she tried to slow the bleeding. She can't find the Gladers, but she hoped that they're safe and protecting eachother.
That's when Luke saw her. He didn't hesitate and dropped everything, running to her from across the field, pressing his hand to her bloody wound.
"Don't move."
Vicky groans, refusing his help. "Don't touch me, I'm fine." She said coldly, huffing. She turns away, in disbelief to why he would help her.
Luke just stared at her as she turned away, and she could feel his heart breaking right in front of her. He used to worship her. He would've died for her.
But he was different now. He didn't know her, she didn't know him. He didn't know what to say.
"Are you hurt?" he finally asked, his voice a mix of cold and concern.
A beat of silence dropped. "No... just bleeding." She said, head still turning away while she puts pressure on the blood wound.
If she could only see how much this was hurting him. She was his first love. He had kissed her and been intimate with her.
The boy that used to be so gentle with her was gone. He was harsher, sterner, his eyes filled with cold, piercing ice.
"Here, I'll carry you." he finally said.
"I don't need you to carry me. You'll drop me." Vicky bickers, shifting away.
"I will not." Luke said resolutely.
Luke was a strong guy. He easily picked her up and began to walk, and the first thing Vicky felt as he carried her was that he was different. His body was harder, and his movements were more careful. He had grown from when she had known him before.
Vicky's silent for a while. "You won't drop me?" She asked, eyes carefully glaring up at him.
Luke kept walking, refusing to look at her.
"No, I will not." he finally answered, his voice filled with a mixture of coldness and politeness. She didn't know what to think. The Luke she used to know would've done anything to have her approval, the Luke she was seeing right now didn't seem to care.
She stared up at him, not putting a fight. Usually, Vicky would declined any help and said she can handle herself. But.. she didn't mind Luke's protection at all.
Luke carried her all the way back to the medical tents, sitting down in a chair next to the entrance and taking her out of his arms. The first thing a medic did was wrap a bandage over her wound and clean it, and Luke just watched. He couldn't bare to look away for fear that he would never see her again if he did.
