The trio was in Missouri, Dean had received a call from someone. An 'old friend' was what he had told Vinnie. Yet, he seemed to elaborate more in private with Sam.
They arrived in a police station, Dean pointed her out and the way she looked at Dean told Vinnie it was something more than just an 'old friend'.
She was stunning. She was skinny, had clear dark skin, curly hair, and beautiful brown eyes.
The sensation of sinking grew in Vinnie's stomach and her lips twitched downwards.
She walked towards the trio, Dean cleared his throat. "Cassie, this is my brother Sam and our friend Vinnie."
"I'm sorry about your dad." Dean said.
"Yeah, me too." She sighed.
The chemistry in the atmosphere between the two was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
At first Sam smiled, glad to see his brother was on good terms with the girl, but his smile soon faded as he saw Vinnie's face.
-
"My mother's in pretty bad shape." Cassie explained, "I've been staying with her. I wish she wouldn't go off by herself, she's been so nervous and frightened. She was worried about dad."
"Why?" Dean asked.
"He was scared." She replied, "He was seeing things."
Cassie was preparing tea, "He swore he saw an awful-looking black truck following him."
"A truck?" Sam asked, "Who was the driver?"
"He didn't talk about the driver," she said, "just the truck." She walked over to them and handed all three of them tea.
"Thank you..." Vinnie said quietly. Cassie smiled and nodded in response then continued, "He said it would appear and disappear. And, in the accident, Dad's truck was dented like it had been slammed into by something big."
"Now, you're sure this dent wasn't there before?" Sam asked.
"He sold cars," Cassie said, "always drove a new one. There wasn't a scratch on that thing."
Vinnie could see what Dean saw in Cassie, she was smart, caring, beautiful...
Sam and Dean continued their conversation with Cassie, Vinnie zoned out. Moth was laying on her lap, rubbing his head against her arm. Sam took notice of this, that's what Moth would do whenever Vinnie was upset as an attempt to comfort her or get the attention of someone who could comfort her.
Then the door opened.
Cassie stood up and walked towards the door, "Mom. Where have you been?"
"Oh, I had no idea you'd invited friends over..." Cassie's mother had ginger colored hair, blue eyes and wrinkled fair skin.
"Mom, this is Dean, a friend of mine from... college. And his brother Sam and their friend Vinnie." Cassie explained.
The woman seemed unwell as Dean attempted to talk to her, she clearly was not handling the death of her husband well, but no one could handle that sort of thing well.
The woman refused to answer any questions and went off to her room. Cassie looked back at the trio, they could see what she was dealing with.
-
In the morning another body had been found, yet another car related incident.
The group, four now, made their way down immediately. Cassie honed in on the sheriff first, Dean, Vinnie and Sam checked out the scene.
