In the next couple of months the trio covered various cases, a spirit who possessed people afraid of plane flights, the real Bloody Mary, a shapeshifter, the infamous Hookman and a disgusting amount of bugs.
The trio were staying in a motel when something rather odd happened.
-
"This is going to sound crazy, but the people who live in our old house... I think they might be in danger." Sam said to Dean, glancing at Vinnie.
Vinnie's eyebrow raised, "What makes you say that?"
"Look, just - - You gotta trust me on this." Sam sighed.
Dean looked at Vinnie then at Sam, "Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa... Trust you?"
"Yeah." Sam replied, starting to pack up his things, he wanted them to all go back to Kansas.
"Hey, man. You've gotta give me a little bit more than that." Dean replied, walking over to Sam.
"I can't... really explain it." Sam said, looking at Dean.
Dean crossed his arms, "Well, tough. I'm not going anywhere until you do."
Sam sighed heavily, "I have these nightmares."
"We've noticed." Dean replied, glancing at Vinnie who nodded sympathetically.
"And sometimes they come true..." Sam said, looking around. Vinnie's brows furrowed, "You're joking..."
Dean looked between the two, "Come again?"
Sam hesitated before speaking again, "Look, Dean... I dreamt about Jessica's death for days before it happened."
"Sane people have weird dreams. I'm sure it's just a coincidence." Dean replied, turning away. Vinnie grabbed him by the sleeve of his shirt before he could leave.
"But what if it's not." She said, looking at the two boys. "Sam, I started dreaming of things before they happened when I was 8 years old. They haven't deceived me yet, I know things before they even happen. I see things that normal people don't see, not just in dreams." Vinnie explained, "I walk by a building and I know things that have happened there."
"What are you saying?" Dean asked, "You think he's psychic?"
"You never know," Vinnie said, "When did this all start, Sam?"
Sam thought for a moment before replying, "Not long after I turned 22, why?"
Vinnie sighed, "Well that's the weird part. It's been said that psychic abilities begin in childhood, that's how it was for me. But.. not you? It just doesn't make sense..."
"Alright! Slow down, you two..." Dean groaned, pacing around the room. "I mean, Sam, first you tell me you've got the shining? Then you tell me that I've gotta go back home, especially when..."
"When what...?" Sam questioned, glancing up at his older brother.
"When I swore to myself I'd never go back there..." Dean said quietly, he looked afraid. Vinnie glanced at Dean with worried eyes.
"Look, Dean, we have to check this out." Sam stood up, "Just to make sure..."
Dean looked back at him and nodded slowly, "I know we do..."
-
Vinnie looked out the window at a green sign that read, "Lawrence 3". It was only three miles away.
Vinnie hadn't been back to Lawrence, Kansas in almost 7 years. Even though she'd grown up there and it's where her parents lived, she still didn't ever even consider going there again.
Soon enough they arrived in town and came to a stop in front of a house. Vinnie recognized it immediately and the memories of watching the firemen putting flames out rushed back.
She looked over at Dean who only stared, the energy in the car was dull and lifeless. Both boys were on edge, that was for certain.
"Dean..." Vinnie said quietly, he looked back at her, "You gonna be okay?"
He swallowed thickly, looking back at the house, and nodded quickly.
They all got out of the car and went up to the front porch, knocking on the door and waiting for an answer.
A blonde woman with brown eyes answered the door, "Yes?"
Shivers ran down Vinnie's spine, for a moment everything in the house went dark. She blinked and it went back to normal, she grabbed onto Dean's sleeve as her heart-rate increased.
Dean looked back at Vinnie for a split second before attempting to make up some bullshit story about why they were there.
Sam stopped Dean before his lies spread, "I'm Sam Winchester and this is my brother Dean, along with our friend Vinnie Hammond. Um... me and Dean used to live here, Vinnie lived down the street... You know, we were just driving by, and we were wondering if we could see the old place."
"That is so funny," The woman said, "You know, I think I found some of your old photos the other night."
"You did?" Dean asked.
The woman smiled and looked around her house, "Okay, come in."
So the trio entered, Vinnie's breathing was shaky as she got the guts to look around the home. Something was definitely there, but it wasn't just one, it was multiple. Images flashed through her mind, images of a burning figure.
Dean picked up on Vinnie's anxiousness and walked up to her, "Vin? Shit, are you okay?"
"There's definitely something here, if not multiple... I can feel it. It's not not the only thing living in this house, Dean..." Vinnie mumbled, feeling lightheaded.
Vinnie stumbled into his arms, "Jesus! Vinnie..." Dean lifted her up and carried her out to his car, setting her down in the passenger seat, "Me and Sam are gonna look around some more, stay here."
Vinnie held fingers up to her temples, slowly rubbing in a circular motion. Moth came and sat down on her lap, doing his best to keep her calm.
Vinnie worked up the courage to re-enter the house, as she did she began to feel a strange sting in the back of her throat. She cleared it a few times, looking around for Sam and Dean.
She soon stumbled upon Sam and walked up to him, slightly coughing.
"Whoa, Vin, you okay? Dean said you almost passed out." Sam looked at her with concern, her coughing got more intense.
"Vinnie...?" He put his hands on her shoulders, "Vinnie what's wrong?"
The coughing wouldn't stop, it quickly began to sound painful. Vinnie raised a hand up to her mouth and tried to cover her cough. She felt something splatter on her hand and looked down to see blood.
Vinnie practically collapsed in Sam's arms, looking up at him in horror. No words came out of her mouth, she coughed and coughed. Blood spewing out.
Dean rushed into the room, followed by the owner of the house.
"Vinnie!" Dean ran over to her and kneeled beside her, "Call 911!"
-
Vinnie laid in a hospital bed, barely awake. She could hear Dean arguing with a nurse outside of the door.
Eventually he was allowed in the room, he sat down in the chair next to her, Moth in his arms. By then Vinnie was asleep.
"Hey, Vinnie..." He said, his eyes were sad. His demeanor had changed completely. But she wasn't awake to see it.
"We're gonna get those fuckers, especially after this. They knew you were psychic and that you had an advantage, so this is what they did to stop it... We're gonna get 'em, I swear." Dean said quietly, brushing a hair out of Vinnie's face. He chewed on the inside of his cheek before sighing heavily. "You take care of her, Moth. You let anything happen and I shave you." Dean said, setting the cat down on Vinnie's bed.
Dean's eyes flickered over her face, before leaning in and gently pressing a kiss on her forehead, then he left the room in a hurry.
