CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
The Green Dragon

SAERA HAD fled the alley as soon the smoke started to enter her lungs. Her quick feet almost led her back to the tunnels beside the Blackwater Rush and then into Maegor's Holdfast during the night before a hand gripped her arm. While also wearing a black cloak last night and dark hour, her grandfather, Otto Hightower, caught her out in the busy streets of the city.

But still, even caught, she got her letter to the White Worm. Though she just didn't know that it was Otto who set the woman's home aflame so that the woman couldn't and wouldn't be able to the Princess's her letter to her half-sister— Princess Rhaenyra— in time.

Because just like the White Worm's little birds, the Hand of the King had his own. And the one that returned all their information and sightings to him alerted the Hand off his granddaughter's hurry to leave the castle at such a late hour.

After being brought back to the Red Keep, Saera was scolded by her mother before being given a sworn knight to stand by her side constantly. Ser Arryk Cargyll was the chosen knight that Queen Alicent ordered to be by her youngest daughter's chambers doors day and night and practically follow her every step.

The act of a knight by her side every moment of her day didn't bother Saera, what bothered her was that her mother and grandfather were still going through on crowning Aegon. And when the smallfolk of the city and the people of the Seven Kingdoms are told that their current King is dead, they're going to want a new one.

That new King would be the one that possesses a cock, which was not be Rhaenyra. Saera didn't see her older brother fit to rule, she never has, he was a drunken fool and unpredictable and selfish. No Seven Kingdoms and its people should be ruled by a King like that.

Viserys Targaryen named his eldest and firstborn daughter his heir before his children with his second wife were born— before he and Alicent were even wed— but now that he was dead and cold, his words might as well been dead to most people too. Especially when his words were that a woman would be sitting the Iron Throne and ruling them for however long her reign would be.

Most would want the dead King's eldest son to be their next ruler even if he wasn't his named heir. Saera could only assume that Rhaenyra, Daemon, Jaehaera, Daenaera, and the rest of the Black's wouldn't accept that.

It was all the auburn-haired Princess replayed in her head. The upcoming coronation for Aegon, the Black's finding out by ravens, the war between kin. It was the only thing she could think about as the carriage being pulled by horses rode them to the Sept. Ser Arryk, Helaena, and Aemond all sat silently in the carriage as well.
