CHAPTER TWENTY
The Princess And The WormIT'S BEEN hours and still Princess Saera couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tossed and turned in her bed. There was nothing in her chambers keeping her awake, besides her. All of the candles were blown out, she hadn't heard baby Baelon's cries from his cradle once, and she even had a special tea made for her to help her get any type of rest.
Still she couldn't sleep. Memories of everything that happened within the castle these last days has been trapped in her mind. The feast that her and her family had was supposed to be a good memory for them all, but Saera couldn't find one good one from the time she left the dinner table to the times she tried to lay her head for the night.
Yet, all of what mostly filled her mind was still the last conversation she and Jaehaera had before the settled succession, the feast, and the Dragonborn's leave back to Dragonstone with her family. The look of Jaehaera's face once she left the Godswood made it seem official of how things were between them— they would never be what they thought or wanted to be, together.
Apart of Saera was glad it happened that way. It would easier as a Princess, the King's daughter, to leave that fantasy of a life behind. But it was harder for a girl who wanted all the freedom in her life over royalty and duty.
That thought stuck with her unlike time, the hour of the wolf passed long ago and the Realms Promise still lied wide awake. And though the Queen probably wasn't, Saera wanted to talk to her mother about how she felt. So she got up from her bed, quietly to not wake her son, and left her chambers.
But she only chose to go speak with her mother, at such a questionable hour, because she knew that Alicent must've had a similar feeling since she and Rhaenyra have had much fallout throughout these last long years.
But when she slowly pushed the Queen's doors to her bedchambers open and walked in, the room was dead silent and completely empty.
Alicent Hightower was not in her chambers, her bed was still messy as if she left abruptly or in a sudden rush. There wasn't a place that Saera could think of where the Queen might be at an hour like this.
All Princess Saera could do was leave her mother's chambers and go back to hers with nothing of what she came for.
Her walk back to her bedchamber's were quiet and the chill of the night, most likely the morrow now, was starting to set in. But when she heard the faint voice of Tyland Lannister around the corner of the hall and going towards the council room.
