CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
War Is Coming

132 after the conquest
blackwaterbay, dragonstone

THE MORROW after having a feast with her family in King's Landing and then returning to Dragonstone, Jaehaera found herself walking along side the Painted Table by herself.

If she had to choose to be anywhere else it would be with her dragon but that is why she wandered around the table. When they left the island for Jace's succession, all of the dragons were left in their pits. But the Cannibal stayed outside of his— that he made for himself on Dragonstone since he has grown profusely since she rode him the first time— because he has been looking for something to actually fulfill his appetite.

It was usually a challenge to feed her large and unique dragon. Jaehaera has managed to make him eat goat, and only goat, when she couldn't find a stone hardened dragon egg for the Cannibal to eat— which are the only ones she let him eat since dragon eggs do have a chance of hatching.

The Painted Table gave her a visual of where it would be best to try and find something to help her dragon. The Dragonborn assumed the Vale would be the best pick since the sheep and goats are most populated there, though she did not want to just burn their animals and land for his dinner.

As she pushed herself off the table, the double doors leading to the library and to where the dragons laid suddenly opened. Behind the opening doors was Lucerys, he held something silver in his hands. When Jaehaera noticed him, she turned to face him with a warm and sweet smile.

"Good morrow, Brother." She greeted him as he approached the side of the Painted Table. "I wouldn't have expected you to be up this early."

Prince Lucerys shrugged as he found his spot in front of his sister, he fidgeted with the item in his hands. "I'm not sure what woke me . . . but I have something for you." He then held out a silver pin with the sigil of a seahorse for House Velaryon. "I found it in Ser Laenor's old chambers, he had ones made for Jace and I as well."

With the same smile Jaehaera greeted her little brother with, she took the silver pin and admired it. The more she looked at it, the more it hurt to think about Laenor.

"Thank you, Luke." After a moment Jaehaera turned the pin around and stuck it on the cloth of her shoulder. Even though it was beautiful and a cherishing item, it wasn't her favorite look with the morning dress she wore. "Perhaps this is my calling to have my own armor forged."
