CHAPTER SEVEN
Remembrance

126 after the conquest
red keep, king's landing

IN THE training grounds, the sworn Knight to Queen Alicent— Ser Criston Cole— guided the young children of the royal family. Though most of his attention paid to Prince Aegon and Prince Aemond.

King Viserys sat high above them on the castle's stone bridge with his Hand, Lyonel Strong. The King enjoyed watching his grandchildren and sons train together.

Jaehaera, her younger brothers, and older her uncles all held wooden swords in their hands while wearing steel armor. The children of Princess Rhaenyra all wore matching clothes beneath their armor— one half of their clothing was red while the other half was black.

The young Prince's and Princess swung and hit the standing straw props in front of them while they waited for their real instructions. It was supposed to resembled a person and give an open target for anyone holding a sword.

Since she was always the only girl when she trained with her family, Jaehaera tended to focus on herself. But she asked Ser Harwin for help or any questions occasionally if she desperately needed an answer.

While her younger brothers talked to the Commander of the City Watch, she focused on her form with the wooden sword she held.

That was until she seen her youngest uncle, Aemond, knock her brother's sword out of his hand from her peripheral vision. Jaehaera watched Jacaerys look up at their uncle with a confused face, then her gaze fell on Ser Criston when she heard him speak up.

"Don't stand too upright, my Prince. You'll get knocked down." Ser Criston watched Jace walk away from the prop and Aemond take over his position.

As the boy walked away, his sister followed him and stood by his side. She didn't like when she and her brothers had to train against their uncles, the silver-haired brother's were more vicious when it came to combat.

Still Queen Alicent would deny that her sons were until her last days. But Jaehaera knew what Aegon and Aemond were thinking about her and her brothers all the time, and why— they were bastards.

"Aegon." Ser Criston's call to the older boy made him turn his head quickly.

"I've won my first bout, Ser Criston." Aegon spoke as he walked towards the knight. "My opponent sues for mercy."
