CHAPTER SIXTEEN
A Fool And His Sister

132 after the conquest
red keep, king's landing

THE HALLWAYS of the Red Keep were quiet, all besides the light footsteps from Princess Saera and the chatter from small groups of people by the bottom of the stairs that led to the personal bedchambers.

The Realm's Promise just left her own bedchambers to Adelaide who watched the young Prince Baelon while his mother was away. Now Saera was on her way to the Queen's personal quarters. Her mother didn't summon her daughter to her quarters but Saera wished to speak to her anyway.

When the auburn-haired girl approached her mother's chambers doors, they looked as if they were supposed to be closed, but one of the doors was slightly cracked open. And the curious part of Saera got the best of her.

She made sure she couldn't be seen through the small crack, but she still made sure she could see what was going on inside the room.

A girl's soft cries was all Saera heard before her mother's handmaiden, Talya, spoke up. "I brought her here immediately. She's seen no one else, Your Grace." The Princess's eyebrows knitted together.

Then it was silent until she heard departing footsteps, ones that were coming towards her. When she realized, she quickly and quietly backed away from the door.

Before she could be seen, Saera hid behind the wall that led to hid Queen Alicent's chambers. She didn't need nor want to explain why she probably looked so suspicious if she was seen by her mother's handmaiden looking into her chambers unwanted.

The doors opened and Talya walked out of them. She didn't glance behind her while walking away so she didn't see Saera hiding in plain sight.

When the woman was gone and out of the hallway, the Princess moved back to the double doors. But just like the doors were before, Talya left one of the doors barely cracked open. The small and noticeable action was strange to Saera since her mother would always want her doors shut, but she didn't think too much of it since the voices inside caught her attention.

In the middle of Alicent's chambers was the Queen herself and another girl, a young girl, who was also a handmaiden. Saera knew her by Dyana, the girl helped Helaena with her children most of the time. She occasionally helped Saera and Baelon too, if they needed extra assistance.
