CHAPTER TEN
He'll Have To Close An Eye

"HOW COULD you allow such a thing to happen?" Viserys stood face to face with the knight that found the maimed Aemond and the rest of the children in the tunnel. "I will have answers."

"The princes were supposed to be abed, My King." The knight answered as Dany stood in between her sister's and the maester stitched Aemond's eye.

"Who had the watch?" Viserys tone was stern while his eyes searched the room.

"The young Prince was attacked by his own cousins, Your Grace." Ser Criston told the King and Jaehaera tensed up, feeling many eyes in the hall of Driftmark look to her, her brother's stood beside her with their hands around either of her arms.

King Viserys then stood up from his chair with the help of his cane. "You swore oaths to protect and defend my blood!"

"I'm very sorry, Your Grace." The knight that stopped the chaos, and saw Aemond's cut eye first, apologized.

"The Kingsguard has never had to defend a Prince from a Princess, Your Grace—"

Ser Criston was quick to be cut off by Viserys' raised voice. "That is no answer!"

Saera had a frown painted on her face, along with a worrisome expression, as she watched the maester stitch up her younger brother's eye. She never expected for her brother, or anyone in her family, to experience something this cruel.

Especially by the hands of Jaehaera. She couldn't even bear look at her niece.

"It will heal, will it not, maester?" Queen Alicent questioned with concern and desperation laced in her tone.

Everyone in the room then put their attention on Aemond again. "The flesh will heal." The maester told her as he pulled the needle through the boy's face. "But the eye is lost, Your Grace."

The news broke Saera's heart and the sight was even worse. Her mother held back a sob with a soft gasp and her father let his head fall in disbelief.

Jaehaera's eyes traveled to the floor at the news. This was her fault, she did this. The young Princess tried her hardest to block everyone out and pretend she couldn't hear them.
