Chapter 11: Defenders

When Yudai opened his eyelids, he was lying on the ground of a barren white space, similar to the one on his dream. The only differences were that there were no thrones and they were all still wearing their school uniforms. He looked around to see, to his relief, Rei, Roka and Kiniro all on the ground next to him, though they were unconscious.
"Where the heck are we now? This doesn't feel like a dream." He said to himself.
One by one his friends woke up and began to ask the same and similar questions. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared, causing all of them to shield their eyes. When they were ready to look, they say the same floating planets that Yudai, Roka and Kiniro saw in their dreams. But unexpectedly, the two planets merged together into a shining ball of light and that ball of light transformed into a angelic white dragon-like creature holding a crescent moon staff, with the two planets rotating on its shoulders. The four teenagers didn't know whether to be frightened or amazed and just kept staring. The dragon started speaking to them.
"Greetings, Messiahs of Earth, Knight of Gold. I am the Spirit of Harmonics Messiah. I've have brought you're here to discuss something with you." They nodded in response
"Before we begin, are any of you familiar with the 'Link Joker Crisis'?" Harmonics Messiah asked and Kiniro and Rei put up their hands, though they turned pale at the mention of it.
"Yes, that was a terrible time, indeed. Link Joker infiltrated your world and made both your and my people servants of the Void. It's was only thanks to the one I named the Messiah of Hope that both of our worlds were able to see the sun again." He said grimly.

"As to why you're here, I will need to tell you they whole story. When Cray was being formed, I created a clan called Gear Chronicle to maintain the balance of existence."
"Gear Chronicle? I remember Izo saying something about that clan." Yudai said in his head.
"I endowed Gear Chronicle with sovereign over three elements: Energy, Time and Space. But it seems that they couldn't control all that power, and the properties of energy, time and space began to distort. So I was forced to take away the power I gave them and sealed them away from the rest of Cray." Harmonics Messiah explained.
"I see, so I guess we have something to do with what comes afterwards, right?" Yudai asked.
"Indeed, but before that, there's something else that happened just before that. You see, the Void, enemy of all, decided the find a way to replicate the power of Gear Chronicle in order bring our world, Cray, to its knees. So, it formed it's avatar, Link Joker, a clan somehow powerful enough to wield all three elements without facing the risk of destruction. And using the power of energy, time and space was able to perfect their ultimate technique, Lock."
"Excuse me, but what's a lock?" Roka asked.
"A Lock is a field created by Link Joker that completely stops and distorts the three elements. Inside this field, all life is immobilised in a space where energy cannot flow, time ceases and space has no meaning."
"So, in order to counter this, you used our clans to stop the threat?" Kiniro asked Harmonics Messiah.
"Yes, it was not by coincidence you three met. A clan that was forgotten deep in subspace," He said looking at Yudai.
"A clan seeking refuge in the sky, using the energy of the wind, clouds and atmosphere for protection," he looked at Roka.
"And a clan that was beyond the flow of time itself were the three clans I saw fit for the purpose" he said as he looked Kiniro.
"Even though I had purified some of Link Joker and formed the 'Messiahs', I know they will not be enough to stop the power of Lock. So, recently, I have given the power of energy to Ascension Deity, Avia of the Stratos Guardian clan, the power of time to the Transcendent of Time, Deus Clockwork, of the Chrono Grave clan and the power of space to Cosmic Saviour, Orionus of the Cosmic Sanctum clan. With you three working together, I am positive that you will defeat Link Joker and Destroy the evil of the Void."
"What do guys think?" Roka asked Yudai and Kiniro.
"Well, we can't exactly leave this world to fend for themselves, can we? Said Kiniro and Yudai and Roka nodded in agreement.
"We'll do it." Yudai told Harmonics Messiah.
"Then from this moment on you are Roka Mizukami, Defender of Energy, Kiniro Inazuma, Defender of Time and Yudai Matsuro, Defender of Space."

"I don't mean to sound rude, but where exactly do I come in all of this?" Rei asked.
"You are the vanguard of Ezel, are you not?" He asked.
"I'd like to think so." Rei replied.
"Well, from each clan I choose a strong unit to form a group, find a vanguard, and aid the Defenders in any way they can. It seems Ezel has already done what I asked and formed the Crusaders and . Well done Rei Asuka, Knight of Gold."
"Gee, thanks. It's a real honour." Rei said scratching the back of his head nervously.
"We'll do our best to protect Cray!" Yudai said, though there was unsureness in his voice. As soon as he said tha, although it was hard to see Harmonics Messiah's face, he could tell his expression had totally changed to a crestfallen one.
"Young Defender, don't think that Cray is the only world in danger. Your planet is in the same peril as ours." He said grimly, causing the four earthlings to gasp in shock.
"During the Link Joker Crisis, the Void was almost successful in destroying the dimensional barrier separating our world from yours, commonly known as The Gate. In doing this many Link Joker were able to manifest themselves on Earth and began to wreak havoc on the planet, undoubtedly set on destroying it. After the Messiah of Hope defeating the Void, The Gate returned to its normal state, but I believe the Void wants to repeat the same thing again. All he has to do is defeat you three and absorb your power and The Gate will be destroyed and Link Joker will destroy us all." Yudai was looking pale again. Now the fate of not one, but two worlds was his responsibility.
"The Gate has never always been fully closed. The power of Psyqualia is proof of that."
"Psyqualia?"
"It's a connection between our worlds that lets chosen fighters communicate with units on Cray. I have no doubt you three have this power, as you all have had personal encounters with at least one of your units." Said Harmonics Messiah. Yudai began to think for a while.
"Come to think of it, I do remember Orionus talking to me in my first fight with Rei. That's probably why I pulled of that last turn so easily without really knowing what I was doing."
" My time is running out, young ones. Remember, grow strong together and never give up. Cease Link Joker's and the Void's advance and stop the Gate from being destroyed. Listen to voice your vanguards and victory will be assured."
"We'll do all those things to the best of our abilities." Said Kiniro.
"I believe in you four. I will speak with you some other time. Also, I had Clockwork cause the flow of time on Earth to be several thousands times slower than usual, so no one should notice that you disappeared. Farewell, my Defenders."
