Becoming Public

We had been dating for almost two years now and we were a secret. He was a k-pop idol so we had to keep all things about our relationship a secret. Anything that could show that he was in a relationship was banned, I couldn’t walk around wearing his hoodies or shirts in case a fan saw, took a picture and put two and two together.

I didn’t really see the big deal about idols dating. All that matters at the end of the day is the idol’s happiness and privacy. I never understood why the fans cared so much if an idol was dating and why it was considered a scandal in the industry. So what if they are dating? It doesn’t affect the music they put out or their performance. I hated it.

I hated keeping everything a secret. I wish that we could be open about our relationship and be able to be with each other in public. It sucked hiding. The only thing it was good for was keeping our private little moments private. I wanted to show him off and be shown off by him without being scared. Even with his dating ban being over, we still had to hide everything. I couldn’t wait for the day to be able to tell everyone. I really hoped it would be soon and when he was comfortable enough to announce our relationship.

We were cuddling in his room in the dorm. The members knew about us and had known about us for a while at this point. We were watching a movie on his tv. I looked up at my boyfriend who was focused on the film. I leaned up to kiss his cheek before laying my head on his chest, sighing softly.

“y/n? Are you ok?” He looked down at me, obviously hearing my sigh.

“I’m ok, Minnie…” I flashed him a smile, not wanting to tell him the truth.

I hadn’t told him about wanting to become public yet. I was worried about how he was going to react. Seungmin was a very private person and chose carefully what he shared with the world because of his status in the k-pop industry. I understood all of this, but I still wanted to be able to walk down the street holding hands without fans taking pictures and causing a ‘scandal’.

He seemed to be content with this answer and he pressed play on the film. I felt bad for not telling him the truth, but I had to. I loved Seungmin and I wanted to show the world how much I loved him, but if that took time then I would just have to accept it because that’s the life I had to live dating an idol.

~seungmin’s pov~
I knew there was something up with y/n even after how many times she had said that she was ‘fine’ or only ‘ok’. I wasn’t going to push it. I respected y/n and I never pushed her to tell me anything.

I had been talking with the company a lot recently. It was soon mine and y/n’s two year anniversary. I wanted to finally become public with our relationship. The company didn’t seem opposed to it as the staff had met y/n many times and knew she wasn’t some crazy fan who would reveal company secrets. I wanted to tell y/n about this, but I was worried about saying anything. I wasn’t sure how she would react or if she even wanted to go public about the relationship.

Even if we were public, we could luckily either go back to the dorm or her apartment for private moments. This also meant that we could finally move in together which was something we had talked a lot about the past couple of months. She was either going to be moving into the dorm or I was going to move into her apartment that was close to where the members were so I could easily travel with them to events. I was leaning more towards moving in with her. I loved the members but I wanted to live with my girlfriend with no distractions. What if we wanted to raise a family one day? The members would just get in the way of that. I saw my future with y/n and I wasn’t going to let her go.

~one week later~
~y/n’s pov~
It was finally my and Seungmin’s two year anniversary. Today was the day that we were going to announce our relationship with the world. He was going to start doing a VLive and then I was to join a little later. We were going to be doing this all in the company so a staff member could watch over everything and keep an eye on the comments.

When Seungmin told me everything, I was shocked. I was shocked that he had been talking to the company about us and had been wanting the same thing as me, to go public with our relationship. We were on our way to the company together in a taxi. Seungmin held my hand tight. I could tell he was nervous. I was just as nervous as him.

As soon as we entered the company, we were ushered to a room. A couple of stylists were waiting for us. They were just going to be fixing some minor things with our hair and putting on some subtle make up. I looked over at Seungmin who let the stylist paint his face, obviously used to it at this point. I laughed slightly and took a picture of him. Seungmin didn’t notice which made it even more funny.

Soon enough we were done with hair and makeup where a staff member was waiting for us, everything set up for the VLive in front of them.

Seungmin took his place in front of the phone. He started the VLive, waiting a few minutes for fans to join before starting to speak. It was cute watching him. He held his own phone, looking at comments. I too had my phone open to read the comments. I waited for my signal to join the live from the staff. About fifteen minutes later, I was given the signal and I joined Seungmin.

“Stay, I have something important to share with you. I have a girlfriend. Her name is y/n. Please be nice to her.” He smiled as I came into the frame.

I smiled waving at the fans, greeting them. I decided not to read any comments because I knew that there were going to be hateful comments from fans who were not happy that their idol was dating. Seungmin read out the nicer comments, one of them asking how we met.

~one hour later~
The VLive soon ended. After Seungmin and I ended the live, the staff took the equipment and left the room, leaving my boyfriend and I alone. Seungmin looked at me and smiled. I smiled back at him. He pulled me in for a kiss that I happily responded to. We were finally public and yes there were some haters, but I loved Seungmin and I wanted to make him happy now and in the future.
