Hwang Hyunjin

Being pregnant was not easy. Luckily I had him, my best friend. Every step of the way my best friend had been there for me. He went to every scan with me, he was there to feel the baby’s first kick. He did everything that a father would do, yet he wasn’t the baby’s father. That asshole left me when he found out I was pregnant because “he couldn’t handle having a family”

When I told the father, I planned everything out. I made it special, yet that all changed after I told him. He started screaming at me, accusing me of using him so I could get pregnant. This was far from true, he was the one who didn’t want to use protection even after I asked him to. I didn’t ask to get pregnant, it just happened. I thought he would be happy, but he wasn’t and he kicked me out. So I went to the only person who knew about the pregnancy, my best friend.

It was the middle of night when I knocked on his door with a suitcase. He let me in and we talked, talked about everything that had happened. At the end of everything he offered for me to stay with him for a month until I was ready to find a place of my own. Nine months later, I was still living with him and neither of us really minded. He was there for me through everything, he helped me with my random pregnancy cravings, often trying them with me only not to like them.

At first when the hospital mentioned him being the baby’s father, we would tell them that he was just a friend, but in the end we stopped correcting them. He was the baby’s father as far as I was aware, he had done so much for me and my child and I was so thankful for him. Over this time, I had fallen for him. I had fallen in love with my best friend, but I hadn’t told him. We had always had an unspoken thing, but this time I was sure of my feelings. It was him I wanted to raise my child with and him only. After everything we had been through together, I was sure of it.

I wanted Hwang Hyunjin to be the father of my child.

It was a day after the due date of the baby. I had been feeling pains since yesterday, but I didn’t think anything of it. I had been having braxton hicks for a couple of days so I was sure it was the real thing. Hyunjin had been home the day before yesterday. He wanted to be there for when the baby finally came, when our baby finally came. He was the sweetest, even though he was busy, he still wanted to make time for me and the baby.

I was looking around the baby’s nursery, making sure everything was perfect for its arrival when I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I winced, holding onto my stomach, waiting for it to pass before continuing what I was doing. It wasn’t until five minutes later that I felt another pain.

It was time.

The baby was coming. I shouted Hyunjin's name, as I slid down the wall, holding my stomach. The man came into the room so quickly, he saw me on the floor and immediately picked me up bridal style, carrying me out to the car. I held onto his neck tight, whimpering as the pains got worse. Luckily my waters hadn’t broken quite yet. While holding onto me, Hyunjin got a towel out of the hospital bag that lived in the backseat of the car and put it on the passenger seat. He sat me down and did my seatbelt. He quickly got in the driver’s seat and started driving with me to the hospital, holding my hand for comfort.

I took deep breaths, this hurt so much. I held onto Hyunjin's hand, squeezing every time a pain struck. I tried not to squeeze too hard because I didn’t want to break the man’s hand. I couldn’t believe today was the day that my, no, our baby was finally coming into this world. I glanced over at Hyunjin who had his eyes on the road, determined to get me to the hospital without breaking the speed limit. He glanced at me for a split second, shooting me a smile. I smiled weakly back at him. He looked back at the road. We weren’t that far away from the hospital. I almost cried out as another pain washed through me. We finally arrived at the hospital, Hyunjin got out, got the hospital bag with all the baby supplies and got me out of the car, carrying me into the hospital.
