During lunchtime the next school day, Sophie transmitted to her friends to meet at Havenfield after school, telling them that Leto gave her the instructions to get to the Black Swan Hideout. She also got them some invitations from him to go to Gildingham, since they had wanted to go there.

Sophie was waiting for her friends to get ready at her house, but they were taking forever!

"Sandor, I'm going to my room. Could you come up and get me once everybody is ready?" Sophie said, Sandor grunted. "Fine, but you do know that I'm coming to the Hideout, too." She ran up into her room, changed into more comfortable clothing, putting throwing daggers into the secret pockets.

With that done, she checked to make sure nobody was outside listening, then pulled out her Spyball, to see if Keefe had come back to the Lost Cities. "Show me Keefe Sencen," she whispered to it.

The Spyball revealed nothing.

She wanted to throw the Spyball across the room. Hmm... Maybe I should try to reach him telepathically, she thought. Sophie reached out with her mind for Keefe. One minute passed, then five. No response. She tried the Spyball one more time, just in case. Then sulked around on her bed for a while.

Someone knocked on her door. Sophie didn't bother to sit up. "What is it?" She yelled after a few seconds, annoyed that someone had interrupted her sulking.

No one answered, They're probably ready by now, waiting for me, Sophie thought. She got up and opened the door while running into the hallway. Sophie yelled. "Hey Sandor, is-"

Someone was pacing there, but she didn't notice that in time, so she crashed into them and they both fell to the floor.

"Ugh... What happened..." Sophie put her hand to her head.

"You ran into me." The voice sounded familiar. "Is that you, Tam?" she asked. "Yeah, now could you get off of me?" Sophie realized that she had been squeezing his arm.

Sophie stood up and blushed. "Sorry, I thought you were a lamp or something."

"I was coming to see if you were alright," Tam said, holding his injured arm.

Sophie wondered why he hadn't asked Sandor to come get her, as he was supposed to come get her when they were done, anyway. "By yourself?"

"Well... Yes, Sandor is busy getting the others to stop playing with the alicorns outside, so he asked me to come get you," Tam said. It made Sophie giggle. "That's what's been taking them so long? I would have expected something more serious."

The conversation turned silent, their gazes met for a second, Tam was still comforting his arm. "So... did I hurt you that badly in the fall?" she asked. "No," He hid his arm, smiling slightly.

When Tam had smiled, Sophie's heart couldn't help but flutter, which reminded her that Keefe was still not back. "Do you think Keefe is okay out there?"

"I'm sure that he can handle himself," Tam tried to reassure her. "He's stronger than you think."

"So you do care what happens to him," Sophie raised a teasing eyebrow at him. "I didn't say that." Tam's face turned into a scowl. He went to go downstairs, but got stopped when Sandor appeared. He noticed the look on Tam's face. "What were you two doing up here?" Sandor gave them the side eye. "Nothing," they both said at the same time. "Alright, time to go."

"First, we have to light leap to a certain location, then find some more instructions there, ugh," Sophie groaned. Once they got everyone together, they followed the instructions to get to the hideout.

"I wonder what he was investigating?" Dex said. "Yeah, I'm so pumped to find out!" Biana waved her arms up in the air.

"Well, I guess we'll know soon," Sophie said as they walked into the light.
