Fintan led me outside, the breeze biting at my skin as he light leaped us to a rocky cliffside. The sky was overcast with thick, swirling clouds. If I had to guess, we were somewhere in Norway.

He muttered something at the clouds, disappointed at the lack of sunlight. A part of me shared the same sentiment, the warmth from the sun had become an unexpected comfort. The thought surprised me, I didn't realize I'd come to enjoy it as well.

His eyes narrowed in annoyance at something behind me. I turned around to see a cloaked Neverseen member running towards us, urgently whispering something in his ear.

Fintan straightened with a thin frown. "I have to attend to something. In the meantime, why don't you study the notebook I gave you? It will help you mentally prepare for later lessons." Without waiting for a response, he light leaped away with the figure, leaving me alone on the cliffside.

I let out a sigh, tugging the notebook out of my cloak. I'd been carrying it around with me for days, meaning to read it but always finding excuses not to. Maybe I was afraid of what it would say, afraid of the knowledge of what I could do.

The gold Flareadon fur cover was worn and matted, and the pages were yellowed and torn. I sat on the nearest boulder, flipping open to the introduction page.

Introduction to Pyrokinesis

The first few pages were about what to do when you manifest, so I skipped that part. The end of the chapter was the most interesting.

True mastery is forged in the crucible of trial by fire; only through facing the fiercest flames of failure can one emerge tempered and resilient, having learned the harshest lessons that no comfort could ever teach.

Talk about dramatic, I thought as I skimmed the pages until I landed on lesson one. It was about how monitoring your emotions was the key to not losing control. I already knew that, even Cassius could've written this part. I went ahead to lesson two. Which was about beginner exercises.

The further I read, the more I realized how repetitive the early lessons were, such as breathing exercises and emotional regulation.

I kept going, flipping through the pages until something caught my eye on lesson six.

Embracing Your Nature

True control comes not from suppression but from embracing the fire within, bending its will to match your own. It is an extension of your will and your emotions. The flames will always reflect the one who wields them.

The text continued, talking about visualizing your inner flame as a reflection of yourself and using that connection to guide it to precise movements. However, the last part made my skin crawl.

Harness controlled emotion to intensify your pyrokinesis. Such as adrenaline and excitement, which will brighten it. However, never feed it anger without care, an angry flame will consume everything, including yourself.

I released a breath, preparing myself to practice. I crouched and held out my hand, summoning a tiny spark. Seeing fire still inspired fear in me, it wobbled in response.

I tried calming my fear and pictured the flame in the shape of a star. It started changing, and I sucked in a breath, then it sputtered, flaring wildly and fizzling out.
