8 - Hungry vultures

DIGVIJAY's  POV

My motion halts, a statue of readiness, the sword ready to attack. My eyes narrow, all the senses sharpened by the unexpected noise. With the stealth of a seasoned warrior, I advance towards the source of the disturbance. How it was???

Just when my sword was about to cut the head of whoever it was, I stopped by her neck. Her eyes coming out in fear, sweat of horror drops down her forehead. Whistling of air and early morning sun rays falling on her made her look mesmerizing. Her chest was heaving as she took breaths of fear.

"Why are you here?", I growled at her pulling her up from the ground.

She did not utter another word not even batted her eye.  I inhaled her scent that reminds me of wild and smell of nature after every rain. It was different but intriguing.

"What are you doing here?", I asked her again, this time gently.

"I....i saw...", "you saw what?", I questioned her, putting my face into her neck. "I saw you leaving and ...and", she looked a little feared, "and I thought you are leaving me there.", finally she was able to word herself out.

The smirk on my face was unhinged. "Exactly what I wanted.", she was getting around my hand. She was loosing her control.

"What made you think so...?", I lifted her head putting my finger under her chin making her look into my eyes.

When my eyes locked to her, something deep in me striked. There was a depth, a shine, a resilience in them. For a moment I wanted to forget everything, the reality.

The fact, I was a king, or she was just a slave and nothing more. In that very moment nothing mattered more. I wanted to loose myself in her every breath. Take her in my warmth.

Then she everted her gaze and the moment broke, and everything was back to reality. The side of me that had any sympathy was gone.

"Tell me? What made you think I will leave you?", she had no idea of what to answer to that. I took a step towards her and she took one back. One step and she again stepped back.

I know I have a power on her. How much I intimidate her. The crushing of leaves and breaking of twings was the only sound heard there. Until she lost her balance and was about to fall. Before she hits her back and fall on the spiked plant, I pulled her back again. She did not say a word and asked the permission to leave.

Soon we were on our way to kingdom. I was adamant to reach the palace before dusk. The reason?

I uncovered some alarming  and petrifying revelations that was a threat for the empire.

I did not pause for a second. Finally after the long day were we were entering the boders of Vijaykot, which is the capital of my empire.

My soldiers and ministers were waiting for me,  as planned .

Knowing that it's me they quickly lined up . Jumping off my horse I acknowledge them as they bowed their heads but at the same time I could see the curiosity in their eyes for a girl by my side.

Of course they couldn't see her face. No one is allowed to have a glimpse of her.

"Is everything ready?" My voice boomed and my chief consultant that was busy giving side glances quickly turned his  head towards me,  nodded and replied with a yes.

"Then what are you waiting for?", he knows well to keep his eyes on My THING.

All the curious eyes everted their gaze as I took a seat on my Chariot after getting into my royal attire . The Woman was now walking beside my chariot again. She've had enough ride in this journey. I'll have my fun later.
