two steps forward— three steps back

"Is the food ready yet?" Alonzo complained "Dang you prepped last night, and started half of the cooking early in the morning before we went to Sunday service,"

"Will you shut your greedy mouth? Perfection cannot be rushed— now make yourself useful, and go get Auntie from the living room yeah?"

He clenched his jaw in irritation, "Sure sis; How about you go out back to call in Uncle Ed and your little boyfriend too then..."

Trinity kissed Alonzo's cheek with a grin before twirling away to the back door; Making her exit she watched as Edwin and Dave bonded over his many rifles used for hunting,

From what she knew so far, Edwin had planned on taking Dave hunting soon— maybe they'd catch a coon, a few squirrels, even a fox

There was no telling what they'd come across, and out there on the countryside nothing was completely off limits, especially on the James' land, "Hey you two... the food is ready,"

"That's what I like to hear baby girl," Edwin rubbed his hands together "Lord knows I've been hungry since the choir sung the 5th song at service,"

She giggled to herself and then he migrated into the house, leaving her and Dave alone in the backyard, "Your church choir sings 5 songs?"

"Yeaahhh, sometimes it's more depending on the day and how the Holy Spirit moves them,"

Dave shook his head at the thought, knowing him he'd probably walk out or shout for them to wrap it the hell up, "What was the lesson on?"

"Forgiveness, which is super ironic and I couldn't help but to feel like the pastor was speaking directly towards Zo, myself, and Troy... he attended with his grandparents per usual but he didn't engage with us at all,"

"How did that make you feel?"

"Not good because it seems like our entire friendship has changed, the whole dynamic is just off and it's not sitting right with me," she then sighed "Usually he joins us for a meal on Sundays but— I guess that's done as well,"

Dave could sense that Troy's absence was really taking a toll on Trinity; Of course, before he came down south for the summer— The James' and Troy were all one big happy family, that's not to say that it's Dave's fault everyone's attitude had shifted toward one another,

If anything he was being an empath and understood why it was such a huge deal to Trinity, although she and Troy had almost crossed a line, they weren't horrible people and shouldn't be punishing each other for a poor decision made on both ends,

"Hey..." Trinity gently tugged at his arm "Where's your head at? It's like you spaced out on me or something, you alright?"

"If Troy ain't coming to fellowship with us, we'll just go to him and fellowship instead,"
