Too Late

Kyle spent the days Stan wouldn't go to school messaging him constantly, while Stan decided not to answer any of them. He wasn't being petty, he just didn't feel good. He hated what his life had became.

Not being in football anymore and being single also meant that Stan didn't have much to do in his free time from now on. He wasn't in anything special and while he did have friends, it would be awkward if he hung out with them after not talking to them for a while. Not to mention that the day he finally showed up, he passed out.

Stan stopped attending school for a couple weeks again, his mom would demand him to go but Stan would just lock his bedroom door and stay in there the whole time. His friends tried messaging him every once in a while, but gave up when Stan never responded.

After getting sent a letter by the school about his attendance, he figured he had to go anyways to school since he didn't need more bullshit. His mom had custody of him that week, and Stan wasn't too thrilled, since that meant all he could do was go to school as she tracked him. She took him to school and tried talking to him in the parking lot.

"Now Stanley..." Sharon started. "I know you haven't been doing good, but you know I'm here for you, right? You can tell me anything."

"Oh yeah?" Stan asked. "Then I can tell you that you're just making my life more worse." Stan said, upset, as he slammed the car door, walking out to go to school.

Stan knew what he said was wrong, but he felt it was true. She treated him like a child, and in Stan's mind, he was in high school so he didn't see himself as a child.

He walked into school and although he was late, at least he showed up. He was in his second period class, which had Cartman and Kenny at his table. He walked in and took a seat as some people stared at him.

"You're back? Thought you died." Cartman said, jokingly.  Kenny joined in. "You doing okay? You missed out on nearly a month of school."

Stan nods. "Not really."

Cartman laughed. "Yeah, we can tell." He said, referring to Stan's looks. Stan had looked completely different than before. When the school year started, he had more of an athletic build and a slight tan from sports, dressed pretty normal for a guy, had his hair styled nice and smiled more.

Now, his hair was a little overgrown, not like a girls but more like it covered his face a bit. He had been staying inside so he got a little paler, he put on some weight, not too much but about 15 lbs from leaving the team and not being athletic or healthy anymore. Not to mention his arms covered in scars threw off every outfit he wore if it wasn't long sleeves.

Stan rolled his eyes. "Why is everybody fucking staring at me?" He says as Cartman responded, "So apparently because you got busted for drugs and then you passed out, everybody said you overdosed on pills and that you were high and tried killing yourself. And that the weeks you ere gone that you were in a mental hospital."

"What? I passed out because I didn't have enough food or sleep. And I stayed home because it would be embarrassing coming back to school after that."

"Oh...then I got some people I need to explain things to." Cartman said, as he might've added on to that rumor, just the mental facility part.

Stan looked over at Cartman. "Did you lose weight? I mean you're still fat but look less fat." He said as Cartman shrugged. "I don't know, I haven't weighed myself. Don't just ask shit like that." He scolded.

Kenny whispered quietly. "Have you talked to Kyle?" Kenny ask, referring to the breakup as Stan shook his head. "No. He probably thinks I'm mad at him."

Kenny nods. "Well we all are gonna sit together at lunch so I guess you two will talk then." he says as Stan frowns. "Yeah, I guess."

Lunch time eventually came and was awkward between Stan and Kyle. Kyle seemed to be doing great, talking about his life. But he did keep questioning Stan and how he was doing, which made Stan uncomfortable.

Stan was about to take the bus that day to go home but Kenny had stopped him.

"Hey, Stan. Wanna hang with me and Cartman?" Kenny asked as Stan frowned. "My mom tracks my phone though." He says as Kenny shrugs. "Your loss then." He says, as Kenny and Cartman all off before Stan shouts, "Wait up!"

Stan didn't care if he skipped home that day, he wanted to have fun and get back to living his life and feel better. The three went ahead and hang out, getting high off some weed Kenny found in his dad's drawers.

Stan came home late that night, around 2:00 am. He walked into the house, which was dark with the lights off. He looked into the kitchen and saw no dinner and shrugged. He walked to the hallway to see if his mom was still awake to lecture him about sneaking out, and had an excuse ready, and he was feeling a lot better so he wanted to talk to his mom.

"Sorry Mom, I had something come up and-"

Stan turned on the light into his mom's room, and froze at what he saw. He saw his mother laying on the floor, cold, turning blue, and lifeless.

"Mom?" Stan asked, confused, as he tried waking her up, but she didn't move. He felt goosebumps, as he dialed his phone calling 911, while trying everything to wake her up, even CPR, but failed.

Sharon had passed away from an overdose. She had no history of drugs ever, and used an over the counter medication, meaning she must have committed suicide.

Stan knew his own mother, she had never had thoughts like that before. He couldn't help but feel responsible at the hospital when they told him the news.

Stan couldn't cry, he couldn't feel anything in that moment.

Anything except a hatred for himself.
