I hate how people say that Hazel is a strong character to look up to.
No, she is not.
If you have cancer, there are two ways to take it.
Hazel: Death is inevitable and I'm just a grenade going to explode. Depression isn't a side affect of cancer, it's a side affect of dying. No, Gus, I can't love you because I might die soon. Anyway I will die eventually.
Gus: I lit up like a Christmas tree, but I'm still going to live my life. I will do anything for the girl I love, take her to meet her favorite author, and drink stars. I will live while I'm alive. I am going to die, but I might as well live until it happens.
Hazel thinks negatively, Gus thinks positively. Gus is a better role model.
