chapter ten | home is where my horse is
————————————————————————"shall we try this again?" julie spoke, looking over at the four ghosts.
"yes, please. but remind us later, there's some sunset curve songs that we wanna show you, and jj's got some in her book, too." luke spoke as he stood up.
"ooh, show me now." julie said, moving her mic away from her face and smiling towards luke.
"yeah, okay." luke said as he bent down and picked up both his and junie's journal - junie was showing him the songs earlier and he helped her finish some lyrics that would be good for the band.
"home is where my horse is," luke read the piece of paper that was sticking out of the top of his journal. "reggie, stop putting your country songs in my journal."
juniper laughed as she picked up her guitar and went to stand next to alex, who was now behind his drum set as reggie walked over to luke.
"that was a gift." reggie spoke. and luke patted him on the arm with his journal.
"thanks buddy."
"you should maybe circle back-"
luke ignored reggie and walked over to julie, two journals in his hand. "i dog- eared the ones that i think you would slay, same for jj's too." luke said as he handed the journals over to julie.
"who's emily?" julie spoke, looking through luke's journal, before turning to juniper's, "and 'my tears ricochet?' junie, that's a bit depressing, don't you think?"
luke and juniper looked at each other in panic. "those aren't dog-eared." luke spoke, walking over to julie, trying to grab the journals off her, but she just closed junie's book, and held luke's close to her chest.
"if you could only know that i never let you go', wow luke, i didn't know you were such a romantic." julie spoke, and while she was distracted juniper grabbed her songbook and put it down on top of the amp, so that it would be out of julie's reach.
"he's not. that one's actually about-"
"no one." luke interrupted alex, not ready to talk about that song. juniper understood. 'my tears ricochet' was one of her most personal songs she'd ever wrote - it was about her dad. it was one of the only things that the boys didn't know about her. they knew she didn't have a good relationship with her parents, but they didn't know to what extent. luckily, the whole 'death' topic had been avoided with her, and she never talked about it anyway. i mean, how could she explain that her dad was the reason she was dead?
"uh, that's just something that i tried, and... but if you go to the next dog-eared page, i got a tune that's just... it's got a killer beat." luke trailed off as he played a riff on his guitar.
