chapter sixteen | she can't see us anymore!
————————————————————————juniper, reggie and alex poofed into julie's livingroom, seeing her sat on the couch doing homework.
julie noticed their presence, and just sighed, carrying on with her work.
"hey, you, uh... you got a second?" alex said, and julie just sighed again.
"oh my gosh, she can't see us anymore!" reggie panicked, looking over at junie. she just looked at him blankly, and walked over to julie.
"oh. right. yup." reggie mumbled when he realised that she was just ignoring the three of them.
alex followed junie, and sat on the edge of the couch, juniper standing next to him.
"julie, please." alex said, and julie finally looked up at him.
"i already told you that i'm done with the band." she spoke.
"yeah, we know. but before you decide that forever, we just... we wanted you to know that luke isn't as selfish as you think." alex said, and junie rested a hand on his arm.
"yeah, you've got him all wrong." junie spoke up, but julie just scoffed.
alex took a different approach. "you remember that song 'emily'? can we at least show you who that's actually about?" alex said, and that caught julie's attention.

reggie told julie to meet them at luke's address, and when she got there, the four of them hid behind some bushes in luke's parents' backyard.
reggie was crouching behind the bush that juniper was standing behind, poking out like julie was next to her, and alex was crouching like reggie down by julie.
inside the home, they saw luke sat on the kitchen counter with his knees up to his chest, red, puffy eyes with tears rolling down his cheeks.
"so, emily's his mom?" julie asked, confused.
"yeah yeah, luke comes here a lot." alex said.
"he thinks we don't know, but... we've been following him." reggie chimed in, his eyes watching the family of three.
"all he does is just hang out like this and watch them." junie said, her heart hurting for the boy she saw as a brother. "they never really do anything though."
"they're having cake, that's something." julie spoke, her gut twisting with guilt.
"it's a... it's a birthday cake... for luke." reggie said, and juniper smiled sadly.
"chocolate cake is his favourite." juniper said, watching as luke watched his parents every move, tears staining his face.
"i never knew luke was hurting this much." julie said, her eyes glossing over with tears.
