As the birds chirped outside my balcony, I slowly woke up, feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity about the day ahead. Yawning, I wondered what surprises awaited me. Getting out of bed, I started getting ready for the day ahead. After getting ready, I made my way towards the kitchen and found Dhruvika and Anisha doing something with their backs to me.
"What are you both doing here?" I asked as I entered the kitchen.
"Trying to make breakfast," Dhruvika replied without turning around.
"Let me see what you guys made," I said eagerly, approaching them. As I got closer, my nose wrinkled at the sight of the misshapen, half-burnt Paratha.
"What is this?" I asked, holding up the amoeba-shaped Paratha between my thumb and index finger.
"Aloo Paratha," Anisha replied, her tone tinged with a hint of sarcasm.
"But it doesn't look like one," I remarked.
"Did you make this?" I directed my question to Dhruvika, finding it hard to believe since she usually makes the best Aloo Parathas.
"No, I didn't. I offered to help, but she insisted on doing it alone, and well, here's the result," Dhruvika explained, gesturing towards the burnt Paratha.
"At least try it before judging," Anisha pleaded, making a puppy face.
"I'm not eating", "Me neither", I and Dhruvika chimed in simultaneously.
"It just looks bad, it doesn't taste bad," Anisha tried to convince us.
"Itna hi hai tho pehle tu try kar", I said in a challenging tone.
(If it's like that, then you try it first)."Fine, I'll try it," she agreed, tearing a piece from the Paratha.
As soon as Anisha took a bite of the Paratha, she rushed to the sink and spat it out, coughing uncontrollably. I hurried to get her a glass of water while Dhruvika comforted her, trying to stifle her laughter. Once Anisha regained her composure, I stood with my arms folded, waiting for her reaction.
"It's not bad, bas thoda sa namak jayda hai", she said in her defence.
(just a little too much salt)."Really? Then you eat this Paratha, and I'll make sandwiches for us," Dhruvika teased with a smirk, while I chuckled at Anisha's pale face.
"No, no, I'd rather have sandwiches, please," Anisha pleaded.
"Okay, but promise you won't attempt cooking again," I insisted, and she readily agreed.
After hastily preparing sandwiches, we devoured them, realizing we were already running late for work. At the office, I bumped into Siddharth and Nitya outside the premises. We exchanged greetings and headed towards the elevator to reach our floor, where Siya and Veer were already waiting for us.
"What's up, guys? Anything serious?" Nitya asked, echoing our concerns.
"Nikhil sir called our team to his office. He was here before you arrived," Veer informed us.
"Who's Nikhil sir?" Siddharth inquired.
"He's Shivansh Sir's assistant," Nitya clarified.
"Why would he want to see us?" I wondered aloud, feeling a bit nervous. It was only our second day at work, and being summoned by the boss's assistant seemed daunting. I hoped it wasn't anything serious.
"I have no idea," Veer replied, shaking his head.
"Are you guys waiting for an invitation? Let's go", Nikita joined us, prompting Nitya to scrunch her face in response.
Afterward, we proceeded to Nikhil sir's cabin on the 24th floor. Upon arrival, we knocked before entering, greeting him with a cheerful "Good morning." He reciprocated the greeting and gestured for us to take a seat.
"Let me explain why you've been called here. Shivansh Sir's niece is turning two in 20 days, and he's tasked me with selecting a team from our staff to assist with planning and preparing for the party," Nikhil sir began.
"The HR recommended your team as other teams are tied up with important projects that require more experience," he added, addressing our unspoken question.
"After lunch, you'll meet Shivansh sir in his cabin for further details," he concluded.
"Okay, sir," we all responded before departing from his office.
As we returned to our desks, the lunch bell chimed, signaling a break. Siya bombarded us with questions about our meeting with Nikhil sir, and Siddharth filled her in on the details. After finishing our lunch, we geared up to head to Shivansh sir's office.
As the lunch break ended and we prepared to meet Shivansh sir, a wave of nerves washed over me. It was my first time meeting our boss, and I couldn't shake the feeling of apprehension.
As We made our way to Shivansh sir's office, my heart was pounding against my chest like a drumbeat. My palms felt clammy, and I'm wiping them on my pants, in order to hide my nervousness.
Thoughts were racing through my mind, what if I stumble over my words or stumble while walking or sitting or if I would be able to make a good impression. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. But with each passing moment, my nervousness was growing. We knocked on his cabin door and after a moment, a faint "come in" prompted us to enter. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the perfect blend of elegance and minimalism that filled the room. The space exuded a rich and luxurious ambiance, with carefully chosen furniture and decor that added to its sophistication.
Soft, warm lighting enveloped the room, casting a cozy and inviting atmosphere that put me at ease. However, my gaze was drawn to the blank space on the wall behind Shivansh sir's desk. It seemed to beckon for a piece of art or decoration to complete the overall look of the cabin.
Suddenly, the sound of someone clearing their throat caught our attention, and we turned to see Shivansh sir standing confidently by the large window. His presence radiated confidence and professionalism, instantly commanding our attention. There was a sense of comfort in his demeanor, coupled with a strong determination that reflected in the way he carried himself.
With a warm smile, Shivansh sir gestured for us to take our seats, signaling the start of the meeting.
