How he confessed to me

After Seiya almost died after his battle with Ikki, he knew that he would have to face Sanctuary and its twisted ways. But before he and his brothers had to go, he wanted to get rid of one last regret.

He very well could die in his next battle.

On the day before he and his brothers would follow Saori to Sanctuary, he asked me to meet at the orphanage. I saw how he fiddled with his fingers, looking more proper than he normally did with his hair neatly combed and his clothes looking more simple. Usually he liked to wear loose jeans with some silly shirts but that day he looked really mature. Surprised by that change, I greeted him with a slight smirk "You look a little fancy today."

"Yeah?" Caught, he scratched the back of his head and looked away with a nervous smile "I thought it wouldn't hurt to look a little more... cool?"

"Oh?" Feeling the opportunity to tease him, I scooped closer and nudged his arm "So? Who are you trying to impress today?"

It probably wasn't his intention to blurt it out, but when his unconscious response was "You?", I couldn't help but blush. Recognising his mistake, he quickly waved his hands and squeaked "No! Wait! I mean, you always see me in my silly shirts and today I wanted to be a bit more special!" Blushing red from cheek to cheek, he tried to save his face a little but really, he only dug his grave deeper and deeper until there was a deep abyss.

Chuckling at his rambling, I hugged one of his arms and gave him a reassuring smile "Is there also a special place that fits your special outfit? Because I want to spend this special moment with you."

"Special." He huffed but didn't shake me off. It was quite adorable how he was still slightly blushing, even when we made our way to the beach.

At first we had a little walk at the harbour and when we reached the beach, I couldn't help but take my shoes off and to enjoy the refreshing water. Seiya joined me shortly after and even found a pretty seashell. It was only subtle but I could sense how serene he looked and it kind of scared me "Is something wrong?"

"Well... It's hard to explain but I need to tell you something about... the coming battle..." It was very hard for him to tell me that he could possibly die, trying to protect Saori in Sanctuary and having to face gold saints like Aiolia of Leo. He didn't want me to worry to death but he also didn't want me to be clueless, in case he really died.

Listening about how grave the situation was, I didn't know what to say at first. Tenderly, I placed my hands on his and looked at the seashell he was holding "I know that this fight is important to you. That's why I won't ask you to stay here. All I want... All I want to ask of you... If there is any way that you can make it out of that battle alive, please, try to grasp that chance." I couldn't help but strengthen my hold on his hands "You and the others, your brothers, are fighting for the future of all of us. A future in which Saori can reign as Athena and ensure peace for us all. That peaceful future, I want you to see it yourself." Finally finding the courage to look, I couldn't help but be captivated by the sparkling red eyes. Such a beautiful red colour, like dawn before nightfall.

As much as I was captivated by Seiya's form, so was he in mine. He softly pried his hands out of mine to give me the seashell he was holding previously and to gently hold my hands in his "I can't guarantee that I will make it out of that battle without a scratch... But I also fight for a future in which the both of us can enjoy peace together, no matter how brief it is..." Slowly, he placed a hand on my cheek and stared deeply into my eyes "I will try to come back to you, even if it is just my soul, my cosmos, protecting you."

I nuzzled his warm palm and closed my eyes to cherish that feeling. It was quite saddening how uncertain Seiya's fate was. But if there was something I learned while watching him during the Galaxian Wars, then...

"No matter how frightening the enemy may be or how strong they appear to be..." Opening my eyes again, I gave him my most courageous smile I could muster "I know you will prevail and bring justice."

The smile that followed my statement was so warm and charming, I couldn't help but notice that Seiya scooped closer and closer with every second "Thank you... Your faith means so much to me..." Blushing, I felt Seiya place his forehead on mine and nuzzle me with his sun kissed skin "Knowing that you are here, waiting for me... I feel right at home."

"I hope so... Because you are home to me." Our nose briefly touched but he didn't come closer than that.

It felt like an eternity in which just stood like that, waves caressing our feet and the wind playing with our hair and clothes. The sun couldn't blind the love that was sparkling between us and the way his warm skin felt on mine was just calming. I don't feel shy nor embarrassed about that intimate moment. Slowly moving our hands, I pressed our palms together, carefully about the seashell in one of our hands, and intertwined our fingers "Seiya... Before you go..."

He softly called out my name and nuzzled my nose "Let me say it first..." Even up that close I could see the slight redness on his cheeks "For a very long time already... you have been a very important person to me... Probably as important as my sister. What I am trying to say is... I love you..."

Nuzzling his nose, I closed my eyes and replied with a satisfied smile "I love you too."

We never said it out loud but ever since that day we have been lovers. And the seashell he gave me that day is a memoir that I turned into a bracelet, so I can always carry it with me.
