How we became parents

We had our first child when we were 25 years old. By that time we were married for five years and lived together in Athens, since Seiya had his occupation as the Sagittarius Gold Saint. Now, people could ask how come that I only got pregnant after we had been married for five years. And for clarification, we always knew that we wanted kids. Ever since we started dating, we haven't stopped thinking about a future together, building our own family and enjoying peace.

But we grew a little fearful.

After Seiya awoke from his coma after his battle with Hades, he announced that he didn't want to waste any more time and wanted to marry me. But there were still gods angry with Athena and her actions, resulting in more battles, before we finally made our vows. But with his last battles fought, Seiya suddenly didn't know how to lead his life. No more enemies showed up and even less needed his assistance.

And then fear started to sink in.

What if an enemy was waiting for him to relax, only to strike him down?

We worked hard through that fear and talked with a therapist to calm down Seiya's turmoil and doubts about his future. Many nights were spent reassuring each other that the fought peace was true, not an illusion or a dream. But we simply weren't ready to have children just yet. Seiya had to manage Sanctuary, since many silver and gold saints had perished. And Sanctuary needed to be reorganised, since Saori announced the presence of saints to the whole world, resulting in people seeking out more knowledge about that secretive organisation. Plus, I had to adjust to my new life in Greece, finding a job and learning the language.

That being said, of course me and Seiya were quite... active in showing our love in bed. We both were humans with desires, that much I won't deny. And we were always cautious to use contraceptives, so we wouldn't fall into an accident.

If we were going to have a baby, then we wanted it to be planned ahead.

Four years after our marriage, Seiya finally came to seriously contemplate on trying out for a child. It started when we were travelling to Nepal because Seiya wanted to check how a newly recruited silver saint was doing. But to our surprise, the silver saint reported to us that there was a wild child who used to be trained by the previous silver saint but after they perished, the child returned back to the wild. Worried, the silver saint asked us for advice on how to retrieve the child. Every time he approached, the boy would go back into hiding. Seiya chose to give it a try and went with me to the forest to look for the wild boy. It didn't take long since Seiya could sense the boy's cosmos, after all the boy had previously trained as a saint apprentice. To our surprise the boy lived with a small herd of sambar deer, most probably his family.

Confident, Seiya exclaimed "This should be an easy deal!" He strolled to the boy, asking him to come with him, but the boy quickly ran from him, hiding among bushes and behind trees. When Seiya continued to pursue him, the boy surprised him with a quick attack, which sent the gold saint flying to the ground.

Laughing, I approached the humiliated Seiya and squatted next to him "I'm not sure whether he can understand you. He most probably never learned Greek, and if he did it is probably only a few words." Nodding my chin in the direction of the small herd, I explained "Instead of approaching the boy directly, how about we try to approach the herd first. I bet one of those females is his mother. And if the mother goes, the child surely follows." That said, I happened to have a couple apples in my backpack. A few metres away from my husband, I sat on the ground cross-legged with an apple in my hand.

While I was waiting for the herd to approach, I made sure to move as little as possible, so the sambar deer wouldn't be spooked by me. They were mustering me for an hour or two until they finally approached me hesitantly. The biggest female stared into my calm eyes and finally ate the apple. Slowly, I stretched my hand out towards her and she nuzzled my palm with her nose. Only when she allowed me to pet a bit, did the boy finally approach me too. I took out another apple from my backpack and asked in Greek "You want it?"
