Our first meeting happened during ancient times, when gods were walking among humans, ever present and worshipped. I was just a young maiden living on a mountain near a flower field. Like every morning, I was out to pick flowers for my family's grave, when I heard the dooming hiss of a snake. Because of the flowers, I couldn't see where the snake was coming from, and I would have run into it, if it wasn't for the calling of a very mystical creature. Noticing the shadow gathering above me, I looked up to see a winged beast coming my way. Not thinking twice, I evaded its movement and avoided both the snake and the new creature. Gasping in shock, I watched as a strong hoof crushed the snake underneath it, making sure it wouldn't be able to bite anyone. Looking up, I saw a pure white horse with big, majestic wings and red coloured eyes, like the warm dawn.
A beautiful sight.
Transfixed, I approached the winged creature slowly, hesitantly. But after three steps, it spread its wings and quickly flew away, not allowing me to even touch it nor its breath.
And that first meeting was the start of everything.
As it happened to be, Pegasus chose to live in the mountain, far away from hunters who would try to capture him. Mesmerised, I would follow Pegasus to a nearby lake he liked to drink from, watching his elegant movements. That was the only interaction we had for a month with him just minding his own business, while I was hiding behind a stone wall surrounding the lake, just watching him.
That changed when one day I was leaning on the wall and the stones suddenly went loose, making me tumble down a hill until I rolled into the lake. Surprised by the sudden fall, I was trashing in the water, trying to figure out where up and down was. In my panic I just swam, trying to find something to hold on and to keep above the surface. When my hands managed to grab hold of a rock, I was suddenly face to face with Pegasus, who had stepped closer to see whether he could help me. Seeing his big, red coloured eyes in front of me again, I couldn't help but stare at him.
He really was beautiful.
"Are you alright?" He suddenly asked me, sounding quite muscular but in a serene way, almost refined. I didn't expect him to know how to talk at all, so I didn't know how to answer. But seeing how scratched up my arms and legs were, he scooped his head closer to me "You can hold on to me. I will help you out of the waters." Finally out of my stupor, I raised my hands slowly to hug his neck and with little effort Pegasus pulled me onto shore. There I was sitting on the wet ground, examining my wounded limbs. That was when Pegasus carefully touched the hurting knee and a warm blue light healed my wounds.
"Wow!" I exclaimed, looking at the mystical creature in delight "Thank you!"
He nodded his head "You are welcome, Fair Maiden."
To be called so delicately by him made me blush a little and I couldn't help but wonder out loud "Do I really look like a fair maiden?"
Pegasus seemed to think about my question and gave me an honest answer "I have met many people, may it be gods and humans. Of all the humans I met so far, I have never seen one as fair as you, Dear Maiden."
It was quite embarrassing to be called that and I asked whether he wouldn't just call me by my name. He complied but then I asked "And how am I supposed to call you?"
Tilting his head, he introduced himself "I am Pegasus, son of Medusa."
"Pegasus..." I repeated in a breath.
Following that incident, me and Pegasus started to see each other regularly, always visiting the lake together to drink, talk and bath. I considered him a friend who I could trust and Pegasus seemed to share the same sentiment.
