If I was scared of syringes

Seiya was eating with my family and as I was bringing the dishes to the dining table, they were already talking about the summer holidays. In a month or so we all would travel to another country and this time we wanted to take Seiya along, since he is my boyfriend.

"I have been there once. The hotel is great and you can eat so much good food there. Not to mention the messages!"

"Ah, but I am sure that you love birds would like to get your own tour, huh? Just don't do anything irresponsible!" They joked around. Once everyone was seated and got their own share of food, the sudden question came "But say, Seiya-kun, did you have all of your shots?"

"Shots?" Seiya repeated, not quite getting what my family was talking about.

"Your vaccination shots? Have you ever been vaccinated?"

Seiya thought hard about that question "I can't remember having ever been to a doctor to receive a shot."

"Maybe as a precaution, you should consider getting a tetanus vaccination. You know, just in case you get hurt. Illnesses always find curious ways to get you. It can never hurt to get a vaccination these days."

"Ah, but if you don't know where to get it, we can always recommend our family doctor to you. He has been looking after us ever since our dear daughter was a baby."

And the much dreaded realisation sank in "Ah, now that you mention it... When was the last time she had her tetanus shot?"

Oh no...

Panicking on the inside, I gulped down my food and tried to stop my family from looking at my immunisation card "It can't be that long! I mean, I have been to the doctor at least a year or so before! Plus, surely they would notify us when it needs to be refreshed!"

"Aha!" They actually found the immunisation card I had been hiding in a folder in my room "Oh my! Your last shot was over ten years ago!"

I gulped nervously, knowing what was coming next "Well, in that case we need to make an appointment. Seiya-kun, how about the two of you get your shots together? If you don't have assurance, we can always pay for you two. It's the least we can do. After all, we are to become family for sure!"

Seiya was looking at my stiff smile but seeing how none of my family members were talking about it, he tried to play it cool and said "I will! Thank you for the offer!"

Patting my shoulder, my family said "Well then, in that case the two of you can go to the doctor and get an appointment on your own. After all, I don't know when you have time with school activities and all."

"Yeah..." I laughed nervously "I will make sure to take care of that."

Of course, I was lying.

And of course I dodged the question whenever Seiya was wondering whether I was alright or not.

Yes, I am scared of syringes.

I wish there was some sort of traumatic story I could tell that would justify my fear but the truth is, I simply hate syringes.

Everyone, who says that syringes don't hurt, is lying!

It hurts!

It freaking hurts!!

And the worst part about vaccination shots is that they keep on hurting for a day or two, and I never understood why. Like, how can one small prick hurt so much? It is a prick, not the doctor slapping my arm a hundred times. And let's not start with my crying fits when I was a child and needed all my childhood vaccinations. As you can expect, my family is pro-vaccines and we all simply want to prevent a stupid disease from killing the children that could have been totally preventable. Though, as much as I agree with that decision, it doesn't mean I enjoy the treatment. Despite my crying, I got all my childhood vaccination and I genuinely thought that it was the end of it.
