"Odell, have you finished yet?"
"No, stop being so impatient, Demi" he called through the closed door. It didn't take me long to pick what room I wanted to convert into baby girls nursery. I was obviously involved in the theme for the nursery however Odell had banned me from being involved in the actual decorating process. He apparently wants to surprise me with it. I don't do well with surprises so I've been impatient all day.
"How long are you gonna be?" I was met with silence but could imagine the smirk that would have spread across his face. I released a breath as I finally gave up and I headed downstairs where Batman greeted me. I relaxed back against the couch and Batman settled himself beside me, his head resting on my bump. "You're gonna get a shock when she gets here. I wonder how you'll be with her" Batman stared at me, his ears twitching every so often as I spoke to him. I hadn't even realised how long I'd been sat watching old episodes of Criminal Minds until Odell spoke.
"Hey" I jumped at the sound of his voice, having not expected it. Odell laughed so I rolled my eyes. "I'm finished" I pushed myself up from the couch as quickly as I could from the excitement, however due to my lack of balance, I stumbled and very nearly toppled into the coffee table. Odell's arm slid effortlessly around my waist.
"Would you be a little more careful, please?" I flashed him an innocent smile as I gripped his arm.
"I'm sorry" Odell only removed his arm from around me once I'd managed to get my balance.
"Come on" I followed behind him towards the nursery which I teared up at the sight of.
"It's gorgeous. Oh my gosh, Odell" I clamped my hand over my mouth as the tears started to pour down my cheeks. "Thank you" Odell wrapped his arm around me as I leant into him. My heart melted as he kissed the top of my head. "All we need now is our baby girl."
"She got a few more weeks to cook yet" I nodded, smiling as Odell stood behind me, his hands pressed against my bump as baby girl kicked to her little hearts content.
"I've been thinking more about names for her" I relaxed back into Odell without even realising but he never moved away. "I think I wanna call her Iris?"
"Yeah?"
"It means rainbow, but the Chinese origin means butterfly" I could feel myself tearing up once again as I admired every single butterfly stuck to the wall. "You okay with that?"
"Demi, I suggested it, of course I'm okay with it being our baby girls name" he was still caressing my bump.
"We need to find a middle name for her now" Odell playfully groaned. I softly laughed as I felt my cheeks flush.
"We'll figure something out, D" my heart completely melted as he kissed the top of my head and ironically, butterflies erupted in my stomach.
I continued to fall more in love with Odell as the days turned into weeks. He'd spend near enough every evening reading to our daughter who loved the sound of her daddy's voice. He took late night drives to Taco Bell or Walmart if I woke with a sudden craving. He did absolutely everything to ensure I was happy and fulfilled. It didn't cross my mind that he was still communicating with Lauren until his phone vibrated on the kitchen counter and I caught a glimpse of the message she had sent him.
