Katrina.
"We only have three rooms available for tonight. There are two doubles and one single. Both doubles air conditioners don't work, that single water flow is low and the television doesn't work."
The woman behind the desk of the Day's Inn lists our options with the most monotone voice and bored expression upon her face.
I could tell by her energy she wanted to get rid of us as soon as we came through the door.
I don't blame her, I'm sure she wasn't too
interested in helping us the way Elijah and I were arguing and yelling our way in here. We've been at each other's necks since we left his dads' and that was almost two hours ago. This is the third hotel we've been to and if this doesn't work out I'm sure we'll end up killing each other.
The frustration of finding a place to stay tonight and the way we left the party has my anxiety increasing by the minute.
I heard almost everything Elijah and his dad were arguing about, I think.
I creeped in when his dad was basically blaming me for what Tony did to Elijah and how I'm not the right girl for him.
I wasn't born yesterday, I know his dad doesn't like me much. I always had a feeling he had some sort of resentment towards me.
I can't say I don't agree with his dad, I still feel guilty about that and how that affected Elijah mostly. But he's wrong about me being wrong for Elijah.
Elijah doesn't know I overheard them, I'm not sure if I should keep it that way.
"So basically all three of the rooms are wack but I have the option to pick the less wackest?" Elijah questions her.
Is that even a word?
She shifts the wired glasses resting on her face and replies, "Yes sir."
He heavily sighs, he rests his elbow on the desk then looks at me. "What do you think?"
I shrug, "I don't care honestly. As long as I can shower and somewhat comfortably lay my head, I'll be fine. This seems to be the best option so whatever we can get let's take it."
His light eyes scan me then he huffs, "You say that now but at the last place we were at, you didn't wanna stay cause you think you saw a roach."
"I didn't think I saw a roach, I definitely seen one and his whole family in the corner of the lobby. You're crazy if you thought we were staying there." I glare at him.
"Sure you did." he dismissively turns away from me. My foot taps against the cold, tile floor as I control myself from shoving it up his ass.
"How much is it for the single room for
two nights?"
"$85 even."
"Okay. Excuse us a second Ms..." Elijah reads her name badge, "Gina." he flashes her a smile before grabbing my arm and walking us off to the side.
I shrug his hand off me before standing in front of him. "Do we have enough for two nights? Maybe we should play it safe and do one, the snow might clear up tomorrow."
He pulls out some cash from his pocket then takes his wallet out. "Sonya gave me enough for one night and I have enough to pay for the second. We should be good." Elijah assures counting the crispy bills in his hand.
