"What's your New Years resolution, Katrina?" Karmen questioned as she sat next to me, with a glass of apple cider in her hand.
"Just to focus on getting into this dance school. These next few months are going to be crucial for me, with auditions and all that jazz." I elaborated. I really need to keep my mind on getting accepted into this school, I can't get distracted by anything or anyone. I'm so glad I cut Michael's ass out of my life, he was my main distraction.
"Y'all wanna know what mine is?" Freddie butted in.
"Not really." Karmen sipped on her drink.
"Fuck bitches and get money. You wanna help me with one of those, Karm?" Freddie wiggled his eyebrows at her.
"I would rather scrap my coochie on concrete then fuck around with you, I ain't desperate."
I shook my head as they continued to argue. I left the table and went over to the DJ booth, "Donny."
I watched him as he switched the record over and the raps of Eric B. & Rakim sounded throughout the room which made the room of teenagers dance even harder.
"Donny," I called his name again, he glanced at me, "Wassup?"
"Can you play Lovergirl after this?"
"Kat, nobody wants to hear that white girl with a black girls voice. That ain't the vibe I'm trying have." he took a swig of his water bottle.
"Hey, if it wasn't for me there would be no vibe to have. I'm basically the hostess of this set."
"It's my mommas house so I have the upper hand." he countered.
"Well, your momma is my auntie and she'll find out that her son dropped out of school 2 months ago. I'm sure she won't be happy about that, now would she." I smirked.
"You said Lovergirl right? I gotchu cuz." he says before going into his pile of records.
"I know you do."
I made my way to the snack table, I grabbed a macadamia nut cookie and took a bite. I smoothed out my new skirt, it's the burgundy colored one that Elijah liked from the mall, too bad he isn't here to see me in it.
"Did I tell you you look fly tonight?" Frankie walked beside me.
"Yes. Three times." I chuckled, my head bopped as Lovergirl came on.
"I'm sorry, you look really good tonight. Too bad your man ain't here to see it."
"I know," I sigh, "wait, he ain't my man."
"Yet. Its just a matter of time before you have his ass whipped like cream and he has no choice but to cuff you. You guys are super cute together." she compliments making me smile.
"Ya think so?"
"Definitely, it's like you two balance each other out. Y'all are different but similar at the same time, it's weird, but cute."
"I never thought of it like that."
I peeped that me and him are alike in certain ways, like how we carry ourselves and our interests. It's funny how other people notice too.
I miss his waterhead behind.
"Hello, children," aunt Cassie called out as she came down the steps, "when the clock strikes 12, Ima need for y'all to stay down here for a quick minute while the adults are upstairs. Then after 20 minutes y'all gonna have to bounce, okay?" she announced.
