Hi guys :)

Sorry for being away for a little while, I was adjusting to a few changes in my personal life.

But now I'm here, so enjoy the chapter!

Sophie sat down on an empty lunch table in the corner of the cafeteria. She had purposely chosen the dark corner of the room so that she wouldn't be seen by Briar and her gang. Sophie wasn't necessarily afraid of Briar, she had faced tons of bullies in her life. However, she still wanted to avoid the purple-haired girl. Getting involved with her gang as the "newbie" was only going to cause drama.

Despite Sophie's efforts to avoid her, Sophie spotted Briar storming towards her way with her group of boys.

Sophie sighed as she did her best to ignore them.

Briar sat down in front of Sophie, her expression was smug. Sophie pretended she didn't exist as she kept chewing her food.

"Hey Sabrina," Briar said as she tapped Sophie's lunch tray to get her attention. "That's your name, right?"

Sophie shook her head, finally looking at the girl in front of her. "It's Sophie."

Briar smiled but her eyes showed frustration. "My apologies, Sophie."

Briar said Sophie's name the same way most people mentioned a name of a fugitive. (Sophie technically was a fugitive in the Lost Cities, but that was beside the point) The boys behind Briar giggled, Sophie wanted to roll her eyes but didn't for the sake of her future.

"So," Briar said, leaning forward towards Sophie. "I want to apologize for my ridiculous behavior last time. I was in a bad mood, my make-up wasn't makeuping, you know?"

Sophie didn't know, but she nodded just so that she could get rid of Briar. "It happens."

Briar rewarded her lie with a fake smile.

Sophie expected her bully to leave but the purple haired girl stayed in her seat. Briar gave Sophie another fake friendly smile as she asked, "You used to be the Moonlark, right?"

The words "used to be" stung Sophie harder than it should have. It had been weeks since Sophie was taken down as the Moonlark, but that didn't mean that she could stop thinking about how her life would be if she still was a symbolization of the rebellion.

"Yeah," Sophie replied. She tried her best to not show Briar her sadness, but her expression gave the emotions away.

"That's so fascinating," Briar said, the boys behind her giggled again. "I can't believe that I am talking to a lab experiment."

Sophie resisted the urge to pluck a goblin throwing star from her sleeve and send it flying towards Briar's pretty face. Sophie wanted to see if Briar would still be pretty with a gigantic scar carved between her eyes.

She probably would.

"Do you even have a belly button?" Briar asked, causing the boys behind her to burst into loud laughter. Sophie's face turned red with embarrassment.

It was not fault that she was a genetic experiment, she never asked to be one. It was unfair when people made fun of a part of her identity that she could not control.

Sudden rage crashed over Sophie's emotions like a tidal wave. Her anger burned in her chest, boiling like hot water. Her emotions turned searing hot, burning until the pain was unbearable. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she struggled to control her feelings.

Her hands formed tight fists as a strong temptation to rash out her rage tried to take control of her.

She wanted to inflict on Briar.
