So I transferred school a few weeks ago, and I'm still struggling to fit in. And writing makes me feel so much better <33
That's probably why this chapter is also pretty long. So enjoy :)
Teal had once been Sophie's favorite color. But it changed when Keefe became her boyfriend. His gorgeous ice blue eyes had mesmerized her from the moment she had met Keefe, Sophie just hadn't realized it at first.
However, as she stared at the intense red eyes in front of her, ice blue didn't seem as beautiful as before. Sophie was stuck staring at his eyes, she couldn't take her gaze off them.
Jewels broke the silence that had enveloped the room. "Did Gisela send you on a mission again, or did you just do something stupid and got hurt?"
Ruy laughed then winced as he clutched his left side. Sophie grimaced as she studied the hurt on his face. She and Neev had entered Ruy's dorm once they were sure he had returned from the Lost Cities. They had found Ruy sitting on his bed still wearing the his Neverseen cloak, surrounded by Jewels and Black.
Sophie hadn't seen his injury but the sweet tickling down Ruy's face told her that it was probably severe.
"It's funny how you think someone can injure me in this hideout, I am obviously the most skilled agent here." Ruy said with a silly grin on his face. Sophie wanted to know how he and everyone else in the room could be so calm in this situation-Ruy could have easily died today.
She could have lost him, just like she had lost Mr. Forkle, Kenric, and Calla.
"He does have a point," Neev said, shrugging. "No one in the hideout can lay a finger on him, much less injure him fatally."
Sophie couldn't help but feel sour as she watched Neev stare at Ruy with admiration. It was clear Neev was in awe of him.
"Jeez," Jewels said, rolling her eyes. "There's no need to take my joke so seriously."
Sophie swore she saw Black chuckling at Jewel's joke.
"Come on, Jewels, I could have died today and that's all you've got to say to me?" Ruy asked, although he had a smile on his face.
Sophie wanted to scold him for smiling. He had nearly died! He nearly gave her a heart attack! How could he be smiling?
But then again, maybe this was just the way of the Neverseen.
"Pretty much," Jewels said, grinning just as widely.
Neev giggled and Black tried to hide his laugh with a cough. But Sophie couldn't smile nor laugh. Her stomach still churned due to her crying earlier, and her heart killed all the joy starting to bloom in her chest.
Ruy must have noticed her discomfort because his gaze suddenly landed on her.
Sophie blushed then wanted to slap herself for it.
"Hey," he said softly with a new soothing smile on his face. Sophie's foolish heart started to beat faster. "I'm okay, see?"
He lifted his arms to the air and didn't flinch at the motion.
His smile was almost convincing. Almost.
Neev frowned as she grabbed Ruy's arms and forced him to lower them. "No moving until you've recovered, doctor's orders."
Doctor? Was Neev a doctor?
Before Sophie could ask Neev about it, the bell echoed through the hideout.
"That's your cue." Ruy said once the ringing was over. "Now, shoo and let me enjoy my rest in peace."
Jewels smirked as she said, "Like that's possible." But she left the room followed by Black and Neev.
