The Unexpected (Namkook)

Part 20

The entire universe started crumbling down at the sight of Sung-ho's team approaching them. Jungkook's lips parted but the words came out inaudible while Namjoon was left totally stunned at the situation. His feet didn't move an inch even though the cops were rushing towards him.

"What's going on?" Namjoon asked the one holding his hand to put the cuff. He was too shocked to retract his hand back from the other man's grip.
"Don't touch him!" Jungkook pushed off the junior officer taking the hand-cuff from him.

"Jeon! I thought you reached early. Why are you opposing?" Sung-ho asked with a complete different understanding of the situation.
"Why are you arresting Namjoon?" Jungkook asked almost shouting after standing in front of the accused who fisted on Jungkook's jacket from the back.

It should have been their moment of acknowledging each other's feelings but events followed like a movie. Namjoon almost hid himself behind the man. It is indeed surprising to him how his submissive side takes over whenever Jungkook is around. With the newly developed feelings, he just back hugged the man with trust on him having his back.

"Are you seriously asking this, Jeon? I thought you already read the message!" Sung-ho stated with shock emitting from his face. On the other hand, Jungkook was flabbergasted at the action of his team because even though he left the evidences at the bureau, Namjoon's name was mentioned nowhere. The results were just tagged in forensic item identification numbers.

"What message?"
"The one inspector sir sent us in the group." Sung-ho immediately took out his phone to show it to his subordinate where Bin clearly mentioned about the arrest warrant of Kim Namjoon along with his house address. The reason stated was witness statement.

"Witness statement? Who's the witness?"
"It's confidential as he mentioned in next round of texts but we need to arrest this boy."

"What's going on?"

A loud deep voice broke out gaining everyone's attention. A man in his fifties stood at the front door of the house, dressed in sweatpants and t-shirts with a 'just woken up' face that was shocking and intimidating at the same time.

"Mr. Kim?" Sung-ho and Jungkook gasped finding Byeol's lawyer to be present at Namjoon's address hinting them about the father-son relationship of the two.
"You guys here! Didn't I ask my assistant to take work matters at office only?" He shouted with annoyance at the thought of him being called due to the ongoing case of Kun-woo's murder.

"We aren't here for you, sir. Rather, we had no knowledge of you living here. We are here to arrest Kim Namjoon, a warrant has been issued under the order of Won Bin sir today morning." Sung-ho explained with nervousness clearly mixed in his composed tone.

"How dare you? My son? For murder of Lee Kun-woo? I am the lawyer and I don't know about it yet?"
"It's under witness statements, sir and it's highly confidential for which you might have been informed today once you would resume work."

Do-guk shifted his eyes towards his son who was looking like a scared puppy behind Jungkook. He had no idea of him being an acquaintance of the senior police officer, but their closely standing position alerted him of the same.

"Jungkook, what are they talking about? I didn't do anything to get arrested!" A sheerly panicked frail voice asked the said man. Jungkook turned back towards him and held both his hands, leaving the other cops and Do-guk shocked but he couldn't care less at the moment.

"Namjoon, have you done anything wrong?" Jungkook put a lot of effort to come up with a calm tone in order to make Namjoon feel comfortable to answer.
"What are you talking about, Jungkook?" The elder was confirmed of his dear one's innocence at the very moment the broken soft voice questioned back. He became aware of the innumerable attempts he needs to make to save Namjoon from this mess.

"Do you know anyone named Lee Byeol? Or Lee Kun-woo?"
"Who are they?"

Jungkook pulled him into a tight hug and placed a lasting kiss on his head whispering, "Difficult time is knocking at the door, Namjoon. Just trust me and I will drag you out it. For your information, I love you."

On an ideal setup, Jungkook would have taken the younger in his embrace to connect their lips and narrated the thousand reasons why he loves him, but he had other work to do. Namjoon kept staring at him with pain of being tagged as a lawbreaker, the joy of hearing the magical words from Jungkook was dominated by the unexpected fear of this mess.

Before he could speak, one of the junior officers  approached to do the task he was allocated for. Jungkook returned the hand cuff but didn't leave the free hand of Namjoon. The crying voice of a female made his turn back to find a crying woman being held by Do-guk who was himself astounded but resisting the cops is not a solution.

"If you trust him to be innocent, then we will dig out the truth together, Jeon. Just don't say anything in front of inspector sir else you will be dropped out of this case." Sung-ho whispered to Jungkook patting on his shoulder before leaving. Although it was unexpected of the man, their improved professional relationship convinced Jungkook otherwise.

He followed the van in his car while making a call to Kai. It was evident from Sung-ho's words that Kai's lab results were not the reason Namjoon got arrested, it had some deeper intention of someone who is claiming to be the witness. In case of super confidential cases, only the high officials and the lawyer are informed of the witness identity but considering Kim Do-guk's position, Jungkook was certain of this case being taken away from him as he was related to the new suspect now.

He was determined to go any level to fight for Namjoon. Maybe counting on Kai and Sung-ho wouldn't be bad altogether.
