"Are you ready?" Steven asked as he pulled the car to a stop at a red light. His arm reached across to gently place his hand on my stomach. "Nervous?"

I let out a shaky breath and wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans. "Terrified. I just want everything to be alright, ya know?" He nodded and kissed my hand. "But I'm excited to find out if it's a boy or a girl." The red light turned to green and Steve pulled his hand away and grabbed onto the wheel.

"Emmie is dead set on it being a girl. She's probably sitting at home, writing down a bunch of girl names," Steven chuckled.

A few minutes later we pulled into the doctors and Steve opened my door and held out a hand to help me out. "Thank you." I kissed his cheek with a smile and kept hold of his hand as we walked in. When the both of us approached the front desk, the lady pointed to a clipboard and then continued her conversation on the phone. I signed myself I and pulled Steven to the back of the waiting room.

"I really hope that nobody recognizes us here," I said nervously and tapped my foot, linking arms with Steve. "That would be bad, they would know that I'm pregnant."

"Well they will find out sooner or later, Laur," Steven replied. "It's just a matter of time before your baby bump becomes too big to hide and the photographers and reporters take notice."

I was about to respond when my name was called out. Steven smiled down at me and excitedly pulled me to my feet, leading us over to the somewhat smiling woman. "Come with me please." Steven and I followed her down a couple hallways, all containing multiple bulletin boards with baby pictures on them. I assumed that those were all the babies that we delivered there. "Right in here. This is Cathy, she will be doing your ultrasound today." The lady then left and shut the door behind her.

I smiled at Cathy and admired her long, blond hair that reminded me of Emily. "Alright Lauren, I'm gonna have you lay down right up here." She patted the chair that was reclined back and turned to her computer. If she knew who we were, she was containing herself. Steven flashed a smile at me and sat down in a chair next to me as I pulled up my shirt. Cathy held a bottle over my stomach and squirted a bit of gel onto it. Next she took a little roller that was attached to a wire and placed it on the gel, rubbing it around while applying pressure.

I held out my hand to Steven and he took it. I gazed into his eyes and he did the same with mine. Neither of us look at the screen, just at each other as we waited for Cathy to tell us the gender. "Oh..." Cathy said in a lower voice, making me freak out. I turned to look at her.

"What? What's wrong?! Is my baby alright?!" I asked frantically and squeezed Steven's hand tightly.

"I assure you ma'am, you baby is fine, both of them are just fine." It took me a second to process what she had just said.

"What?!" Steven and I asked at the same exact time.

Cathy pointed to the big screen on the wall with the ultrasound projected onto it. "The bigger one on the left is a little boy and the smaller one on the right is a baby girl."

My mouth was still open in shock. I couldn't have twins, I just couldn't. I wasn't even ready to have one baby yet, let alone two! Cathy had printed out a couple of pictures and handed them to Steven. My breathing started to become unsteady as everything sunk in.

"I know that twins can come as a bit of a shock, but once you think about it and let everything process, I think you will be very happy," Cathy told me as I continued to silently freak out. "First kid?" She asked Steven.

"I've got a nine year old girl, but it's Lauren's first time," he replied. I could tell that Steven was freaking out on the inside but was trying not to show it. "Thank you." Steven helped me up and held me close as we walked out to the car where I broke down sobbing.

*Steven's POV*

"I can't do it, I just can't!" She sobbed into her hands. "I wasn't even ready for one baby and now there's two! TWO, STEVEN!" I could see the tears rolling down her cheeks and to her hands. I didn't know what to do or say. "I can't."

"Lauren, look at me," I said softly and she didn't move. "Lauren." I carefully held onto her wrists and she finally looked up at me with puffy, red eyes. "Lauren, you can do it, I know you can. I know that it'll be worse in the moment but then think about how it will all pay off in the end." Her sobs started to soften and calm down a bit. I grabbed one of the ultrasound pictures and held it in front of us, my other arm holding onto Lauren's shoulders. "Look at them, there's our little boy, and there's our little girl."

She smiled while looking at the picture. "I bet they'll look like you, with your stupid feet that you and Emmie have," she laughed and I chuckled as well. "And I bet they'll have your brown eyes too."

"And I bet they'll be beautiful just like you," I said and kissed her lips.
