As soon as I pulled the car into the driveway, I broke down as well. It wasn't that I was upset that Lauren was having twins, it was the fact that Lauren was so upset and scared. I didn't want her to be scared because everything would go perfectly fine when it came time for Lauren to give birth. At least I hoped. The babies were healthy and so was my soon to be wife, they had to be okay, all three of them.
"Steven, please don't cry," Lauren sniffled. "I thought you were happy." Her fingered wiped both mine and her tears away.
"I just don't want you to be scared, and honestly, I'm scared too. I have no clue how this will work out either, and I'm nervous," I replied and she held onto my hands.
Lauren put on one of her beautiful smiles and I looked into her green eyes. Just looking at her made me feel so much better. "Just like you said before, we will figure it out together, and that it might just take a little while to sink in." I nodded and we got out of the car, making our way to the door. Before walking in, Lauren stopped. "But I'm just worried about Emmie. She may be excited for one baby but not two. She already asked me if we would forget about her."
"We will just have to tell her slowly and hope for the best." Lauren nodded and opened the door.
Suddenly, there were loud footsteps stomping down the upstairs hall and Emmie jumped down the stairs with a wide smile spread across her face. "IS IT A GIRL?!" She asked and jumped up in down in front of me. I just stood there silently as Lauren sighed and went to sit down on the couch. "W-what's....what's wrong?" I still didn't reply and glanced over at Lauren who had her head in her hands. "Dad?"
"C'mere, Em." I picked her up and brought her over to the couch where I sat down next to Lauren. Lauren rested her head on my shoulder and I held both her and Emmie close.
"Is something wrong with the baby?" Emmie asked.
"No Emmie, nothing's wrong, it's just that....Lauren is pregnant with a boy and a girl...twins," I said. Emmie didn't respond, making me more nervous by the second. "Emmie?"
I wasn't prepared at all for what happened next. Emmie jumped up off my lap and barely glanced back at me before running upstairs and slamming her bedroom food shut. Before she disappeared up the stairs, I saw her crushed, tear streaked face. I fell back into the pillows on the couch, more stressed out than ever. Neither Lauren or I said a thing for a few minutes until she spoke up. "I knew this would happen. She was already so afraid of being forgotten with one baby, and then she finds out that will be two. I seriously can't imagine how she feels. It's all my fault that she's mad, I told her that nothing like that would happen."
I hugged her to my chest as she cried. "Lauren, this is in no way your fault. We couldn't of control any of this." I lifted her chin up. "Now I'm gonna kiss you, so you better be happy by the time I pull away," I joked. She gave a small laugh before I pressed our lips tightly against each other and held her close by tangling my fingers in her hair. A few seconds later, I dipped my lips down to her neck and moved all the way down to her collarbone where a gently sucked on the skin. Lauren moaned out quietly before giggling. I knew that it always drove her crazy when I did that.
"Don't leave a mark!" Lauren laughed and pushed my head up, making it fall on her chest.
"See, you're laughing now." I lifted my head up and pecked her smiling lips. "Now that's the Lauren I know and love."

"Emmie?" I asked and knocked on her bedroom door. She had locked her herself in her bedroom when she found out about the twins and hadn't come out in hours. "Emmie, please open the door."
"Go away!" She yelled and there was a bang on the door.
"Emmie, I just want to talk to you." There was another bang on the door. "Please?" Emmie was silent until I heard the click of the lock, and then fast footsteps coming from her room. I waited a moment before opening the door to find Emmie not in sight, although I knew where she was. I got down on my stomach and scooted under the bed where Emmie was still crying into her arms.
"Em, please don't cry," I said and wrapped one arm around her. "It's gonna be okay, nobody's gonna forget you." I heard her sniffle before she lifted her head up to look at me.
I instantly felt horrible when I looked at her red, puffy eyes and color drained cheeks. "That's not what this is about!" She said.
"Then what is this about?" I asked, confused.
She mumbled something quietly and I barely made out what she said. "I found my birth certificate."
I couldn't speak. I was hoping that she would never find her birth certificate.
"W-what?" I was hoping I heard her wrong.
"I FOUND MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE IN YOUR OFFICE TODAY!" She screamed and pounded her fist on the floor, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I KNOW THAT JOANA IS MY BIRTH MOM!"
