A/N: The picture is what the twins look like! I hope it shows up!
"You're such a handsome boy," Lauren whispered to a sleeping Caiden. She gently smoothed out his large bundle of dark brown hair and smiled down at him as her finger stroked his red cheek. I stood up from my chair next to Lauren's hospital bed and kissed her cheek before heading for the door. "Where are you going?"
"To check on Cleo to see if there's any progress," I replied, earning a nod from her as I left the room. Quickly, I rushed down a couple of hallways until I reached the room that Cleo was put in two days ago.
I hadn't even got to see her yet. I didn't even know what my baby looked like.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out to see that it was the house back in Georgia calling.
"Hello?" I said.
"You called?" Norman asked.
Wait, Norman?!?!
I put on a straight face. "Norman, what the hell are you doing in my house?" I asked.
He took a second to respond. "I'm watching Emmie."
"Where's Emily?!" My voice raised, causing a few people to stare at me.
"Getting ready for one of her concerts," he replied.
"And she left you with my daughter? There's a reason why I asked Emily to stay with Emmie." I knew I was overreacting a bit but the last time Norman babysat Emmie, she broke her wrist.
"You sound stressed? What up with you, Steve?"
"Lauren had the twins," I stated quickly.
"What?!"
"But I called because I don't want Emmie to know until we get home, which might be a while, but we aren't sure yet. So please, just do whatever you can to make sure that she doesn't find out," I said, practically begging.
"You got it," Norman replied, making me sigh in relief.
"Thanks, I got to go." We said our goodbyes and I put my phone away.
I waited outside by the door for what seemed like forever until someone walked out. "What's happening? Why can't I see her?" The man was always sent out to answer all my questions, but it was always the same.
"Steven, I need you to calm down and take a deep breath," he said and I nodded. "I'll be right back." A couple minutes later, he came out holding something....someone. "Here she is."
I quickly, but carefully, took baby Cleo in arms, holding her tiny body to my chest for the first time. "What happened with her?"
"It's called overcirculation failure," the man started, earning a puzzled look from me. "In most cases we have seen in newborns, she will be pretty much okay. She's one medications that will help unload excessive volume and lower her blood pressure resistance to allow the heart's pump function to improve." I nodded even though I didn't understand a word he said. "If she seems to be having trouble breathing or anything bad like that, bring her to the hospital immediately."
"Thank you so much," I said and he nodded before disappearing back into the room.
I looked down at Cleo who had her eyes slightly open. Brown, just like mine. "You're so beautiful." She let out a small yawn and I gently kissed her soft forehead with a smile. "Are you ready to go meet your mother?"
*Lauren's POV*
Caiden started to quietly fuss in my arms, making me start to softly bounce him. "It's okay mommy's here. Are you hungry?" I reached across to grab the bottle of formula that he never finished before hand.
Steven had wanted me to breastfeed instead of formula feeding but I thought the opposite. It always made me laugh when I thought about when Steven admitted that the reason was because he would have liked seeing me with no shirt on half the time.
Caiden quickly sucked down the formula before falling asleep in my arms. Since he was asleep, I didn't want to wake him just to burp him, so I simply walked across the room and placed Caiden in the small bassinet the hospital provided. My eyes glanced at the empty bassinet that Cleo should've been in. I just wanted to see her, I wanted to at least know what she looked like.
Steven and I decided that Caiden looked more like me, although he did have big brown eyes, the same color as Steven's eyes. His hair was such a dark shade of brown, that it looked black sometimes, but it would probably lighten up as time passed.
"Lauren?" By the tone is Steven's voice, I could tell that he was happy. I turned to see a little pink bundle in his arms. "Do you want to meet our daughter."
I nodded, unable to speak. Steven slowly came over and gently placed the baby, our baby, in my arms. To me, she was a spitting image of Steven. I didn't know what to do or say, all I could do was cry tears of joy.
Steven wrapped his arms around me from behind, holding my back to his stomach as he kissed the side of my lips. "I want to see if she has your stupid feet. Caiden does, I already checked. Poor Caiden and Emmie."
"Emmie happens to like her feet," He stated.
"No, no she doesn't," I chuckled quietly. I softly tugged on Cleo's sock until it came off and she curled her toes, making me awe at her cuteness. "And she has your feet."
Steven gently tickled her tummy. "You're a lucky girl, Cleo."
"Don't lie to her!" We both started laughing, causing Caiden to wake up.
Steven let go of my waist and picked Caiden up out of his bassinet. "Hey there CJ," he said, looking down at Caiden. Sometimes we call Caiden by his initials 'cause CJ sounds cute and it suits him. "Here, come meet your sister." He brought Caiden over next to me and Cleo.
"I hope you know what to do next 'cause I have no clue," I told Steven.
"Are you kidding me? I've got one other kid, I'm an expert at this by now," he joked, making me laugh again. After a moment, he said, "We'll figure everything out, we always do."
I smiled at him before leaning in to kiss his lips softly. "We always do."
