"Georgia, where were you during PE yesterday?" My friend Zoe asked me as I sat down at our lunch table in the noisy cafeteria. Zoe was perfectly skinny and had brown hair she always kept in a ponytail. "I noticed like half way during the game that you were gone." I was surprised she even noticed at all.

"Oh, yeah... Well basically I..." I didn't know how to explain it to them. "I just got kinda bored so I slipped into the other hall and left through the emergency exit..." Should I tell them about Reese? I didn't want to. "And Mr Wilson caught me, and I've got detention after school."

"Aw, how'd that happen?" Emma, who used to be my best friend, laughed mockingly from next to me, leaning the side of her head on her hand in order to get a better look at me. You see, everyone in my life always laughed at me, but it was never when I was actually trying to be funny. Her freckled face watched me, feeling superior, as her her long, dirty-blonde hair gracefully fell on the table.

When the end of the day finally rolled around, instead of going home and recovering after an exhausting day at school, I was heading to detention. My mum had gone absolutely ballistic when she got the phone call. Thank God I wasn't with her when she got it or I probably would have been dead meat.

I opened the door into the detention classroom. The reek of acidic sweat immediately overwhelmed me. Maybe skipping PE wasn't such a good idea after all. At the teachers desk, sat a lanky man with huge glasses immersed in a book, and I knew he didn't care what happened in here. Even if he did, he wouldn't be able how to stop it, since he didn't really portray the slightest ounce of authority. Mr Gibbs.

Almost all of the battered desks were already taken by an assortment of all types of idiots. They all sat either embarrassed, annoyed, sad or just didn't give a shit. I scanned the room for Reese. I'd rather sit next to him than these guys.

I finally spotted Reese in the second last row of desks. The seat behind him was the last empty one apart from one right in the middle of all those twats.  I nervously squeezed between the columns of desks all way to the back and sat down behind Reese. He immediately turned around fully in his chair.

"Hi Georgia." He smiled gleefully.

"Hi Reese." I sighed. I was wasn't really in a talkative mood today.

"Y'know, some of these guys have criminal records!" He said in admiration.

"That's... interesting?"

"I know." He watched me intently. "Why have I never seen you until yesterday?"

"I dunno?"

"Have you ever had detention?"

"No." I laughed, surprised. I had never been a perfect student, but I'd never been bad enough to get detention.

"Ohhh. You're one of those teachers pet people aren't you?" He smirked putting his elbows on my desk and his head in his hands.

"Not really. Teachers tell me I have "attitude" waaay too often." I laughed.

We ended up talking all through detention and as I predicted, Mr Gibbs didn't care.

Reese ended up getting me right out of my un-talkative mood after only a few minutes. He was one of the easiest people to talk to I'd ever met, in the best way possible. We ended up talking up about complete nonsense that seemed to matter. Quickly we felt comfortable with each other, and ended up dying laughing at the most random things, since we both had the same idiotic sense of humour.

Was I making a new friend? Is this what it was like? I couldn't remember.

I had only managed to befriend  Emma since kindergarten, and then she became friends with Zoe in middle school and she kinda had to be friends with me. I was surprised they hadn't just straight up left me. I might have just preferred that to what they did these days.
