8- Forbidden Bliss

"You cheating ma!" Jay exclaims throwing his cards down.

"No no Mr. Cole. I'm winning fair and square." I giggle.

"Nah you cheating." He chuckles. I smile and gather up the cards. Placing them back in the box. I glance back at the couch to see that Kayden is now asleep. Not wanting to wake her I look back at Jay.

"When did that happen?" I ask nudging my head the way of Kayden.

"I didn't even notice. You want me to take her upstairs?"

"If you could do so without waking her." He jumps up from his seat.

"I got it." I watch as he carefully picks her up. She doesn't make a sudden movement or sound. My Nanu is tired. I smile a little and watche as he slowly makes his way to the stairs.
Just as he begins to take slow steps up the stairs my phone vibrates.

I look down at the screen that is now lighting up. Seeing the word unknown flash across the screen. I smile a little knowing that it's my dad. I hit the answer button and place it to my ear.

"Hello?"

"You have a prepaid call from 'Kaydrian Demoney' an inmate at a federal prison. You will not be charged for this call, to accept dial five. To decline and block this caller dial 0." I quickly press 5 and put the phone back to my ear.

"Baby girl." I hear my dad say. His accent as thick as ever. I smile and sit back in my seat.

"Hi daddy."

"How's my little girl doing?"

"I'm fine daddy. How are you?"

"Same as always. Ready to bust some heads open in here." I sigh. "I'm tired of my patience being tested in here. If one more person takes my phone session I swear!" He yells away from the phone. When he gets mad his accent comes out the most. So I almost can't make out what he is saying.

"Dad that's petty."

"Yea well. They know better in here. How's my baby?"

"She's fine. She just fell asleep."

"Mhm. Malano?"

"He's home doing whatever he does."

"And your mother?" I sigh and look down at my hand that is now pulling at the torn string on my ripped jeans.

"I haven't seen her in almost two weeks."

"Two weeks? What the hell is wrong with her?"

I shrug to myself. "I don't know dad. But it's getting a lot worse now."

"What do mean?"

I clear my throat. "She's doing it in front of Kayden now."

"What?!" The bass in his voice makes me jump a little. My father is a big man so you know how that sounded throughout the jailhouse. I'm sure some of the inmates jumped as well.

"Yea. When Mally and I picked Kayden up she told us how mom came to see her. And she said that mommy kept sniffing sugar. Then she said some dude walked in after her calling her pretty. Saying he has toys for her. And mom just chuckled calling the man silly. Dad I think mom is prostituting now."

"You think so?"

I nod as if he could see me. "Yea and I don't like Kay being around it."

"Damn it! I knew I couldn't trust her with my kids. I should have just left you and Kayden with my mom, in England."
