Kai Demoney Feburary 6, 2015 2:45 pm Miami University"Love can be felt and given in many ways." Professor Bricks starts, pacing back and forth in his rant. "Now I know you all may be thinking, what does love have to do with health care? It has a lot to do with health care. Your patient needs to feel the love, the nurture, and the care when they have an encounter with you. Being that this is in the study of child care. This is most important for them and applies mostly to them. They need to feel they can trust you or else they won't respond very well. Practicing gaining a patient's trust can help you prevent many things like temper tantrums, paranoia, and even bladder accidents." He finishes and stops directly in the middle of the room.
"Can any body explain to me their definition of love?" Almost everyone's hand shootz up except mine.
"Ah Ms. Demoney thanks for volunteering." I sigh. This guy has over 200 hundred students and probably can't remember all of our names. But mine he remembers? 'Should've just raised my hand.'
I clear my throat and sit straight up in my seat."Uhh- love from my perspective is caring, sharing, sacrificing, understanding, and even when you don't understand you take the time to try to understand." I explain hearing our classroom door open. I look over just like everyone else. And to my surprise it is Dr. Carter. Yes the one we said looks like Arnez from the show 'One on One'.
The professor clears his throat. "Ladies and Gentlemen I'm over here." After catching Dr. Carter's eyes I quickly turn back to face Professor Bricks. "As you were saying Ms. Demoney."
"Um- love is something tha-that can be given to more than just family. Love can be spread generously, in many different ways. Like to a patient. That kind of love is mixed with the passion for what you do and the determination of making sure your patient is healthy." I clear my throat and sit back in my seat. After Professor Bricks realizes I am done he gives a pleased nod.
"Good answer Ms. Demoney." I give a half smile.
"Now today we have a special guest here to talk to you all about his level of health care." I watch as Dr. Carter walks up next to Professor bricks.
"Please give a warm welcome to Dr. Carter." We all clap our hands as he gives us a smile.
"My full name is Reginald Carter. I'm 31, and I own my own family practice." His eyes connect with mine and I immediately think about my visit with him. And how I am currently with child. I look down at my lap to break the eye contact. Slumping deeper into my seat I think, 'great now my professor will know before I even get to tell him.'
An hour of listening to Reginald talk about his job sends me over board. Because I'm pregnant I'm always fatigue now. So as soon as I get home I'm going to sleep. I have to admit though, I almost went in class. I gather my things and slowly make my way down the seating area. I catch a glimpse of Professor Bricks and Dr. Carter staring at me. 'Oh god maybe he's telling him now.'
"Ms. Demoney." Professor Bricks calls after me.
"Yes Professor Bricks?" I force a smile and head his way. Trying to hide the fact that my heart is pounding rapidly. I think it might actually turn into the road racer and shoot right out of my chest.
"Dr. Carter was just discussing with me about how he thinks you would be a good candidate for the nurse internship at Miami's Children hospital." I crack a small smile and Look over at Reginald. He couldn't have known that I've been applying for that internship every year since I got here.
"Really?" He nods.
"Yes, and I agree with him. If you volunteered more in class I would know just how qualified you are." He smiles and looks down at the application in his hand. "If you could just fill this out then I can put you in the highly recommended file."
