After finding out that Val's ex had been threatening her my big brother instincts started to kick in. I knew I needed as much help as I could get to protect Val. Luckily my closest friends have gotten close with Val so I knew they would also want to protect her. I knew that when I asked them for help I would also have to tell them why I'm so nervous about Rhett coming back around. I didn't even need to say anything. When they saw the look on my face they knew that something had happened. We all sat down and I told them what was going on.

"What I'm going to tell you is going to be gruesome. So just bare with me. Val was a freshman in college last year. She was younger for that grade because she graduated from high school early. Val played lacrosse for BC and was a starter last year. When she first arrived her and her teammates went to a party. That's where she met Rhett. She didn't want to jump into a relationship so he agreed to be friends with her. Overtime Val started to gain feelings for him. Rhett was a junior her freshman year. He was the captain on the soccer team. He was very charming and the stereotypical all american boy. When they first started dating he was super sweet, caring, and the quintessential picture of a good boyfriend. However, slowly overtime things started to get worse. It was three months in when he started to become abusive. At first it was mental abuse. He would gaslight her and control everything she did, then it turned physical. He hated I was close with her. Anytime she messed up or he was pissed for whatever reason including when he lost he would beat her. Then it not only was physical, but also sexual. On top of beating her he would rape her. He never wore condoms and one time she ended up falling pregnant. She went to tell him because although they were young Val wanted to keep the baby. However, instead of being happy or understanding that what he did has a consequence which was her getting pregnant he became pissed off and beat her. She ended up losing the baby. However, this isn't it. He would take pictures and videos of everything he did as blackmail. Now he is not only threatening her with the abuse again, but also with posting these videos and pictures."

They were all shocked. I know they didn't know what to say. Even though Luke already knew all of this he still looked aggravated and upset reliving all of this. I looked at all of them and continued talking, "I need your guys' help to make sure she stays safe." All of them nodded, agreeing to help me. I was relieved that I would have all their help and that if I wasn't able to be there to help her that they would be. Now comes the worst part about this. I have to tell Val about it. He couldn't contact her because she had a restraining order out on him, but it didn't include me in it so he's not breaking any laws by contacting me.

I drove to the Field House. When I arrived I was able to catch coach Harbaugh at the front door. I asked if I could speak to him in private. He nodded and led me to his office where I shared the messages that I received about Val. Coach Harbaugh was worried and agreed to let Val leave early with me today and for one of us boys to stop in every now and then to make sure she's okay. Once we walked out of his office we walked onto the field. Val walked up to me. I gave her a hug and while in the hug I whispered to her what was happening. I felt her stiffen and her breath becoming more rigid. Once we let go of the hug coach Harbaugh hugged her. As they hugged I picked up all of Val's stuff. After finally letting go we walked out together. I made sure no one else was around and got her into the car. All of the boys were already waiting at our place so when we walked in they all were concerned for Val. We all sat around in the living room, watching tv and doing everything in our power to keep Val's morale high.

As we were all sitting around and watching tv I heard the front doorbell ring. Since Val was cuddling into me and needed my support right now I had Ethan go open the door. When he did I saw it was JJ. I quietly made Val aware that he was here. He asked if he was allowed in and luckily Ethan made sure it was with Val. She quickly nodded and Ethan fully opened the door for him. Once inside JJ sat down and we told him everything. Just like all of us he looked concerned about Val's wellbeing. He didn't want to push or make Val uncomfortable. I was happily surprised again though when she moved closer to him and cuddled with him. Other than me and Luke he is the only other person she has done this with when she is going through something as traumatic or scary as this. I couldn't help but smile at what I was seeing. Throughout all of this JJ has continuously proved that he is a good guy and also good for my little sister. I just hope that when things get tougher which knowing Rhett it will get harder that JJ doesn't leave Val.

We included JJ in our plan of making sure Val was never alone. Him being with Val and going to the same practices together ensures that she had someone with her when I couldn't be. Since we had practices during the afternoon at around the same time Ethan, Mark, Luca, Adam, Luke and I couldn't drive her to and from practice so I was happy that JJ knowing everything that he would be able to protect and look out for Val. Now that we had a solid plan in place we were able to somewhat relax. While we were watching tv Val fell asleep on JJ. I decided to leave them alone and brought a blanket to cover both of them. I knew that Val needed this sleep because when she wakes up she'll be worried about everything and have a hard time sleeping. I also decided to move some of her things into my room while she was sleeping on the couch cuddled to JJ. When I walked back out to the living room JJ was playing with her hair. I smiled and took pictures of them and sent it to both of them. When I looked back up from my phone JJ was smiling at me. I'm assuming he was looking at the pictures I sent him. I sat down next to them and saw JJ making the photos that I took as another set of wallpapers for his phone.

While sitting around I also ordered all of us some food. I decided to order some panera for everyone. I already knew all of the boys' orders as well as Vals. The only one who I needed to tell me their order was JJ. I handed him my phone so he can add what he wants to the cart. Once I double checked that everyone's orders were in the cart I checked out and made sure it was going to be delivered. Waking up Val once the food arrived wouldn't be a fun time, but she needs to eat some food before falling asleep again. Everything that has taken place so far is draining her, but this is going to be the most taxing. If I'm being honest I'm worried about her. The last time Rhett was in her life she was isolated from me, depressed, anxious, a shell of herself, and was in the hospital recovering from having a miscarriage and the abuse. I needed to make sure that she maintained her diet as best as she could and was around everyone who cared for her. I don't want to lose my bubbly, sweet, kind, and energetic little sister, but as long as she has me I will try my hardest to ensure that none of those things happen to her because I don't think she'd be able to recover from Rhett's abuse again.
