We spent the night at Andres' house after doing our presentation, but Ringo and Dayana stayed at Emilio's place. After dinner, I went outside to have a smoke.

"Hey!" he said and threw me his lighter.

We were facing the fence full of red roses while enjoying the moment of smoking.

"Winston," he voiced.

"Yes?" I asked, and I could literally feel what he's about to say.

"Regarding what you said earlier, about dating a guy or girl. What do you mean by that?"

"Bakit mo natanong?" saad ko. I tried not to be intimidated.

"Just wondering, bro," he stated and twisted his lips on the side.

I observed him, trying to study his face and figure out what's on his mind. I knew him well, and I was fully aware how he would react if I gave him an honest answer. It would only lead me to drop every detail of the truth.

I drew in deep breaths to calm my nervous heart and mind. "It's just a random thought. Don't take it personally."

"So you're not gay?" he asked. My nerves rose through my throat after hearing his question.

"No, I'm not," I responded, and I felt a flip of stomach because of my answer. I didn't like justifying myself, and I wanted to avoid being bombarded with questions I couldn't answer.

His shoulders relaxed. "Good to know, then. I mean, of course you're not gay. Kilala kita, pero gusto ko lang makasiguro."

"Are you relieved?" I asked in a cold tone.

Grinning from ear to ear, he said, "Yeah. Ang weird lang kasi kung sakaling bakla ka nga. Imagine, you're a basketball player but you're gay."

I clenched my jaw, but I tried containing myself. "Why? Wala namang masama doon? There are so many people in rainbow community that can do better things than some straight people."

He scrunched up his nose "Stop talking nonsense, bro. Alam naman natin na wala na silang ibang kayang gawin kun'di ang magtago. If they found the courage to come out, the only thing they do is fight for their pride and be obsessed with themselves."

"They're just fighting for their rights," I said. "At isa pa, kaya marami pa ring nagtatago dahil sa mga taong makikitid ang utak."

Mabilis niya akong nilingon. "Woah! Chill, bro. What's got into you?"

"Nothing," I responded. "I'm just speaking out my views about it."

He shook his head slowly. "There's really something off about you lately. Kelan ka pa nagkaroon ng interest sa mga gano'ng bagay?"

"Just lately. I just realized that in order to understand them, we don't need to pull them out of the closet and judge them. What we have to do is try entering their world to understand what they're fighting for."

He let out a sniff. "I'm really surprise by how you talk now."

"Don't overthink. Ako pa rin 'to," sambit ko.
