ACT 5 SCENE 1: HIS DECISION

Three months drifted by, and Alexa found herself acquiescing to the offer, though Levi harbored reservations, he ultimately respected the decision and dedicated himself to ensuring Ekaterina's safety.

During one of Alexa's allotted hours of freedom, she ventured outside with Levi by her side. The fresh air embraced her as she basked in the newfound liberty, relishing the sensation of freedom. As they strolled through the wilderness, Alexa's curiosity piqued, and she turned to Levi with a question. A question which she's been dreading to ask Levi for the past 2 months.

"Where is everyone?" she inquired, her voice tinged with a hint of confusion. "And why can't I see anything beyond the wilderness?"

Levi paused, considering her questions carefully before responding. "We're keeping our distance to give you space to enjoy your freedom," he explained, his tone reassuring. "As for the view, it's a safety precaution. We want to ensure that you're safe at all times, so for now, this is what you'll see during your outings." This is what he said, but certainly, Erwin did not gave him any command regarding this.

Despite the limitations, Alexa found solace in Levi's company and the brief respite from her confinement. As they continued their walk, she embraced the simple beauty of the natural world around her, grateful for the opportunity to experience even a fleeting taste of freedom. Last week, actually, she asked Hange to if she can get a stray plant from their walks that can be a décor to her plain room reminding her of her new freedom.

          Hange?

Hm?

Can I have some decoration in my room?

I'm not sure, I'll ask Erwin. Do you have something in mind for it?

Uhmm. Small plant? You know those little ferns?

Ahh, the one we always pass when we take this route?

Yeah!

Hange trudged wearily back from escorting Ekaterina on her allocated hour of freedom, her steps heavy with exhaustion. Upon entering the barracks, she found Levi, surprisingly in good spirits, waiting for her. With a hopeful smile, which was rare, he inquired about the activities they had engaged in during their time together, anticipating tales of lighthearted amusement.

However, Hange's demeanor was far from jovial. Ignoring Levi's inquiry, she launched into an impassioned tirade, urging him to cease his efforts to shield Ekaterina from their daily operations. In her view, Erwin's intentions were clear: Ekaterina's integration into their activities was not only desired but necessary for her to gain insight into their world.

Hange's response was unexpectedly tense. She bypassed Levi's question, her expression stern as she addressed him directly. "Levi, we need to talk."

Perplexed by her abrupt shift in demeanor, Levi furrowed his brow in confusion. "What's got into you, Hange? Did something happen with Ekaterina?"

Ignoring his question, Hange pressed on, her tone unwavering. "You need to stop distancing Ekaterina from our work. It's just opposite to what Erwin wants."

Levi's eyes narrowed, his patience waning. "And what does Erwin want, exactly?"

"He wants Ekaterina to observe our operations firsthand, to understand the nature of our work," Hange explained pointedly. "But you're treating her like she's made of glass."
