You were watching the box slowly come up, barely registering the loud grinding noise it made as it brought up the newest glader, having heard it far too many times.

Gally came up behind you, standing next to you in silence, both of you tense.

The box finally arrived and some of the boys heaved the trap doors up and open, quickly filling the box with light.

The boy who was in it flinched, shielding his eyes with his hands, peering up at the rest of you, barely moving.

"Welcome to the glade, greenie." Newt said, swinging his legs over the lip of the box, extending a hand to help the boy out. He shied away from Newt's hand, instead climbing out himself, and Newt just shrugged.

The boy stood near the box, surrounded by the other gladers, and you noticed how scared he looked.

Without warning, he bolted, dodging around other gladers and sprinting away from the group, towards one of the maze walls.

Everyone started, a few laughing or shouting at him to stop, and you nudged Gally. "Should we go after him, or...?"

Gally smirked, shaking his head. "I doubt he'll get far anyway. I mean, look at him."

You rolled your eyes, but you knew what he meant. The greenie looked frail, and the panic and adrenaline wouldn't exactly help him.

As if Gally had called it, the boy's legs betrayed him and he stumbled, collapsing to the ground on his knees.

Gally grinned. "I told you so."

"Mean."

Gally just shrugged, but he scowled slightly. "...Do you think it's a little weird that he just ran like that?"

You gave him a confused look, watching Newt and Alby both walk over to the boy. "No.. I mean, he looked pretty scared."

Gally put his hands in his pockets, also watching. "Yeah, but were you that scared?"

You pause, trying to remember back to the day you had arrived. "I don't know. Maybe? I know I didn't run, though."

Both Newt and Alby had stopped in front of the greenie, and you knew Alby well enough to know that the boy was going to get a full on lecture on the first rule.

No one in the maze but the runners.

"Me neither... But why would you run in an area you knew nothing about? For all he knew he could have run straight into anything."

You smile a little, crossing your arms. "I think you're over analyzing."

"I'm just looking out for the glade. What if he knows?"

You exhale loudly, but can't help feeling like he might have a point, no matter how far out the theory seemed. "Knows what, exactly?"

"I don't know. Who put us here. How to get out. All of it."

The boy was now standing up slowly, brushing off his clothes and looking sheepishly at the ground, and you rolled your eyes. "Yeah, so could I, but you aren't questioning me."

A pause. "But you wouldn't do that."

"Maybe I would, you'll never know."

Gally smirked, the sarcasm obvious in his voice, watching as Alby came back to the group, done with his rant on the rules, Newt staying with the boy to show him around. "Uh huh. Sure. Anything you say."
