She pushes the door open, revealing Samantha's dad talking to some office person. We're not twins, triplets, or even equaldroplets, but we all take a step back in shock.
Alex bumps into the British guy, causing him to drop his phone. "O-oh, s-sorry about that.."Alex stammers, quickly turning around to pick up the phone. "No problem." the other guy replies, but our faces say it all.
"Um..." Elliot mumbles.
"Come on in." the lady urges, but we hesitate, standing outside. She steps forward, the click of her heels echoing on the ground.
Alex hesitates, glancing our way before taking a deep breath and stepping forward. We follow behind.
He stood at the reception desk, his voice loud and raspy, "I've been telling you, they took my daughter!!" Veins bulged on his neck, his face flushed.
He coughs, wheezing slightly, and the receptionist's face tightens as she moves back a bit, disgusted with his lack of manners.
We all creep in cautiously, hoping not to catch his eye, but he sense our presence, turning around.
His eyes blaze with anger, pupils dilated. We take a step back. He points his finger at the receptionist, he continues to scream, "These fucking brats kidnapped my daughter!"
His yelling sends shivers down our spines, and the expressions on the faces of the staff behind the desk tells the whole story.
The receptionist panics, waving his hands frantically. "Please refrain from using such language or referring to them like that!" he pleads.
"Excuse me." the British guy says to us. He needs to speak to the other available receptionist, so we move aside to let him pass.
He greets the other receptionist kindly, saying, "Good evening, I'm here to pick up-"
Samantha's dad continues yelling, refusing to cooperate. Mya rolls her eyes at the outburst.
He turns to us, singling me out. "This one appeared at my house," he points, and the receptionist looks at me.
"Yes, I did." I replied, folding my arms and raising an eyebrow at him.
"Samantha has been gone from school for weeks. Care to fill us in on that, Mr, Robinson?" He fell silent, and the receptionist glanced at him, waiting for a response.
"Ahem." The receptionist interrupted, holding a small binder and opening it. "Samantha has missed over forty days of school within the last few months." He flipped through the papers he was holding, "For her to succeed in class, she needs to be present."
"T-That doesn't matter!" He slams his hand on the table and frightening the receptionist.
In the office, there were private rooms where staff could have private meetings with families. As one of the room doors open, Nathan emerged, stretching and yawning, holding the gym bathroom pass.
Nathan notices us besides Mr. Robinson, and gives a "Yikes" expression. He tucks the gym pass under his armpits and starts throwing us some hand signs.
"Gang signs??" Mya mumbles, squinting her eyes. Elliot smiles, covering his mouth. Some of the office ladies look at Nathan, and he waves at them casually.
"Explain the bruises on her." Suddenly, Alex speaks, and the office falls silent as all eyes turn towards him.
"D-Did he just say bruises?" A worker whispers to another, one with a pencil in their mouth, while others shush them to hear.
