Finnick's POV
We both wake up late the next day. I'm usually out of bed around 7:00 AM, singing with Annie while we make breakfast. It's only been three days with Johanna and its felt like a whole year.
I decide to let Johanna sleep in since yesterday was a really bad day for her. And it was the worst day of my life. It's tied with the day I found out Annie, Peeta, and Johanna were taken to the Capitol.
I go downstairs and start making breakfast. The names of songs Annie and I would sing together fill my mind. I try to get them out of my head but it's impossible now that Annie's gone. The thought of us getting a divorce now makes me want to curl and die.
I hit her. I hit Annie. I stop making the eggs and bang my head against the wall. "FUCK!" I scream. I close my eyes, rubbing my aching forehead. Footsteps come from upstairs. "Jesus, look what you did now," I mutter. I start cooking the eggs again before they get burnt. The toast pops out of the toaster and I start buttering them onto two plates.
"Finn."
I spin around, seeing a tired, beaten down Johanna Mason. "Hey," I say softly, turning back to the eggs. They're finished so I place them on the plates. "How was your sleep?" I hand her a plate.
She takes it. "It was okay. Filled with nightmares, but it least I was asleep." Johanna brings the plate to her face, inhaling the smell of breakfast. "This smells good, thank you," she comments, giving me a small smile.
"You're welcome." We sit down at the stools in the kitchen instead of the dining room. All of Annie's books are still stacked on the table where she left them yesterday. I push the thought out of my head and start talking to Johanna. "Do you think we're going to need some pills for sleeping, to make the nightmares go away?" I ask, eating the eggs and toast.
"Probably," Johanna says. "I had to use them when I was stuck in thirteen. They work really well, actually. I wonder why I stopped using them..." She goes silent.
"We'll go to the pharmacy or doctor when we're ready for that." I sigh, finishing off the rest of my breakfast. Johanna is staring at my arms in horror. I forgot that she cut me up yesterday. They stopped stinging shortly after she fell asleep. I was up a long time before going to bed.
"Hey," I say, placing a hand on her shoulder. She flinches. "It's okay."
"I know." Johanna takes a deep breath. "It's been a long three days. A lot's happened and I'm still wondering if the hospital is a good idea still."
"It's not going to do anything," I tell her. "We're going to do this together step by step. I rushed you too much yesterday. It was my fault that whole mess happened."
"You weren't rushing me at all Finn." Johanna laughs like she's in pain. "You were taking it slow and steady. It just takes me a long time to get used to the water. I acted like... there's no words for it." She sighs again, finishing off her meal. "Thank you for breakfast. That was really good."
"No problem." I take our plates to the kitchen and turn on the tap water, pouring hot water into the sink. I pour soap in and watch it fill to the brim of the sink.
"I can do the dishes," Johanna offers. She picks up a plate and starts washing it in the soapy water.
"And I'll help you." She giggles. Hearing her giggle makes me feel a million times better. I miss hearing her laughs and sweet songs.
"Johanna, can you sing?" I shyly ask her. I don't know why I feel so awkward asking her. We've known each other for years.
"Um." She looks around nervously. "Fine," she agrees, sighing.I beam happily, looking down at my plate and drying it.
