"You son of a bitch," Jungkook spat, his teeth gritted in rage his voice lethal and menacing. His fists clenched so tightly that the veins on his hands and temples bulged, but his face remained eerily calm.

"What did I say wrong, Jeon?" Max scoffed. "You attacked one of the most powerful mafias in Russia for what? Just for a mere girl. That doesn't suit the king, JK. You broke the contract between the mafias first, Jeon. You think you can survive with half of the underworld on your tail? You started this war, and now it's going to end with your destruction."

Max kept on blabbering, oblivious to the fact that he was infuriating the devil himself. If only his face wasn't pressed against the wooden floor, and if by some chance he could have caught a glimpse of Jungkook at that moment, he would have realized the colossal mistake he was making.

Jungkook's calmness was a silent storm, deadlier than his most venomous words.

Moments passed swiftly like the wind as you stood by the main door of your former apartment. The corridor was nearly empty, with only one or two people passing by on their evening walks with their dogs, engrossed in conversation with each other. The stillness of the hallway was almost surreal, broken only by the soft murmur of voices and the occasional clinking of dog tags.

As you stared at the main door, a wave of relief washed over you when you saw the nameplate: "Lee Y/N." It meant no one else had moved in yet, and your home was still yours. The nameplate was slightly tarnished, but it was a welcome sight, grounding you in the familiarity of your past.

It had taken a full seven minutes to reach your floor, yet those seven minutes felt like seven hours, each moment tinged with growing frustration. You swallowed the lump forming in your throat, wincing at the sensation as if shards of glass were stabbing into it. Your mouth was dry, yet your body was drenched in perspiration. Beads of sweat trickled down your forehead, tickling your skin as they traced erratic paths.

Standing there, countless thoughts dominated your mind— If Jin Ae and you had truly swapped souls, then she must be inhabiting your body right now. Perhaps she found the address on the card in your trench coat pocket after gaining consciousness and came to the apartment. Or maybe one of your colleagues, or Joseph, helped her get here?

Maybe she didn't make an effort to visit Han Mansion because she wasn't as desperate as you were. After everything that happened to her, it wouldn't be surprising if she didn't want to come anywhere near her previous life. The mere notion of seeing someone else in your body was enough to provoke a laugh from deep within you. After all, this felt so stupid to believe. But laughing was the last thing you felt like doing right now.

Or perhaps, in a darker twist, she isn't alive at all.

"Think positive, Y/N. Everything is going to be alright," you whispered to yourself, the words a thin thread of hope in the thickening fog of anxiety.

Taking a deep breath, you clenched your sweaty fist tightly before slowly unclenching it. With your heart pounding heavily, you lifted your trembling right hand and reached for the doorbell. Each beat of your heart resonated in your chest, and your shaking hand made it difficult to complete the simple task, but you managed. Finally, your index finger pressed the doorbell, and the chime echoed. The sound reverberated in the silence, a small beacon of normalcy.
