Chapter XXII - Change

"I can't believe it! Brennen left without saying a word!" exclaimed Stein.

Eren's face darkened as he replied, "Yes, he did. And I think it's time for us to face the truth. We need to disband our party."

Stein let out a deep sigh and said, "I suppose you're right. It seems we must relinquish our roles as heroes."

Eren looked him straight in the eye and said, "From now on, you'll be a simple priest, and I'll be a regular hunter."

Stein nodded and extended his hand, "Agreed. But don't forget about Frieren's will, Eren."

Eren took his hand and replied firmly, "I won't forget, Stein." He turned and walked away.

As he left, Stein called after him, "By the way, you forgot to call me Father!"

Eren then went to the town square and asked almost all the people if they had found Brennen, but had not got good news. "I just want to know where is he!?" exclaimed Eren.

While Eren looked for Brennen, Brennen, and Carla went to a strange old house.

"Why did you take me here?" asked Brennen.

Carla remembered the memories while she looked at the house. "There's something I want to show to you, Brennen," she replied and opened the door.

Carla leads Brennen to a secret chamber in the house and sends shivers down her spine.

Brennen looked at Carla and asked, "You okay? You look like you're terrified in this place."

Carla shook her head, "No! Not at all! It's not I used to be tortured in this place!"

Both of them finally made it to Evoke's underground lab. "What is this place? This is in ruins," said Brennen. He then looked at the broken apparatuses, "Just look at it, Carla! And how did you discover Evokes lab?" he asked.

Carla sighed while searching for something, "I was forced to work here as his slave scientist. He kept beating me if I disobeyed him."

"But you have the ability of a Creeper. You know Creepers can explode when threatened, right?" said Brennen.

Carla replied, "He injected me with this." she then showed Brennen the anti-explosive serum.

Brennen was surprised, "Oh, my, that must've hurt a lot, was it?"

Carla looked down, "Yes, and there's one thing I'm finding in this place." she then went to an area where it's covered by cloth and removed it, revealing the enchanting table.

Brennen's face was surprised, "Huh!? Isn't that my father's enchanting table!?"

"You know this table?" Carla asked.

Brennen nodded and replied, "Yeah, I remember Evoke said came to my homeland and stole our Allays and the enchanting table."

Carla then flipped a page of the enchanted book, "Brennen, you're tribe is very sacred, and even preserved the texts in this book. It also mentioned my old tribe that was wiped out a hundred years ago."

"You mean Sahra'?" Brennen asked.

Carla replied, "Yes, that's where my father was raised and the birthplace of Alzawahif. In Standard Galactic or Latin Galactic, it means reptile, but people call us Creepers."

Brennen raised his feet and touched Carla's cheek, "You don't look like a reptile to me. You're more fluffy than having rough scales."

Carla jolted and blushed, "Um... Yeah... Uh... Could you please let your hand go?"
